Chapter 19
Fiona POV
Knocking on Nolan’s office door, I wait for him to call me in before pushing the door open and entering. He sits at his desk, stiff and concentrated on the papers in front of him until I stop in front of his desk.
“I need you to prepare a birthday gift for Chloe,” he says curtly. His daughter. I’d been stressed all morning, waiting for a new assignment from him, but this is not what I expected.
“I thought you didn’t want me to cross any personal lines. Does this not count, sir?”
Nolan finally looks up from his work, “You are my personal secretary, which means you take care of my food, clothing, and any other request I give you. Finding a birthday gift for my daughter is just another task you need to complete.”
I can’t argue with that, and for a brief moment, I wonder if he’s testing me. Does he think bringing up his daughter will make me somehow become jealous? Is this his way of finding out whether I’m still interested in Andy or not?
Whatever it is, I need to prove I can complete any task he sets before me. I don’t want to lose this job, so I take a breath and agree to find the perfect gift for his daughter.
When I make it back to my desk, I open up social media. If I want to find what Princess Chloe likes, I need to learn about her. The gossip around the office says she is very popular on social media, so I find her page.
The amount of followers makes my eyes widen, but I guess she is a Princess. I don’t know her personally, but the status alone would account for the followers she has.
Scrolling through her posts, I find that all of them recently are of her and Andy. Her media is full of images of them kissing, going on dates, traveling, hanging out with friends, and so much more. I try to ignore the anger disgust that I feel because honestly, this isn’t her fault.
Andy is the one who betrayed me, not this girl.
The further down I go, the more her posts are filled with fashion and friends. She seems to get a lot of love for her gorgeous features and the expensive clothes and accessories she wears. Several of the items and foods on her page are unknown to me, but after searching them, I find they’re incredibly expensive.
One of the desserts she posted was made by a five–star chef who only serves the wealthy or people of nobility. The thought of being turned away from a restaurant just because I don’t have money makes me feel a bit sick.
Then, one particular post catches my eye. Chloe and a beautiful woman are standing together at an event. The caption relays that the woman is Chloe’s mother, Nolan’s ex–wife. How Nolan could be so cold and detached in the face of a woman who looks like a goddess, I’ll never know.
If she’s so gorgeous and couldn’t get Nolan’s tenderness, then who could? Mates are naturally supposed to be drawn together, to love each other, yet these two broke apart and barely talk to each other.

Shaking my head, I get that thought out of my mind. It’s none of my business, and I have a task to complete. So, I dive back to the search, taking note of the brands Chloe seems to like and the places she’s traveled. Maybe she would like to go on a trip or get
an item from the newest fashion line from one of her favorite brands.
I jot down a few more ideas before glancing at the clock. My coworkers begin clocking out, but I stay seated, looking for more
ideas.
