Chapter 4
Dante had his phone on speaker, so I heard the message too.
He stood there frozen, holding the phone, his face full of disbelief.
“How… how could this happen?”
Blood kept flowing from between my legs.
I could feel the precious pup I had fought so hard for slipping away from me.
An unbearable sorrow gripped my heart.
If that call had come just one minute earlier, would my baby have been saved?
But even now, Dante still refused to believe the child was his.
He crouched down, yanked my hair, and forced me to look at him.
“Renna, did you bribe the pack doctors so they could lie for you?”
I gave him a bitter smile. “Dante, do you really think I have that kind of power? If you don’t believe it, you can get tested again yourself.”
Just as he was about to say something, a group of people burst into the house.
Leading the charge was my father.
He saw my mother unconscious on the couch and me lying in a pool of blood.
Rage overtook him. My father kicked Dante hard in the back. “You monster! What the hell did you do?!”
The other werewolf polices who had come with him gasped when they saw the scene.
Someone quickly picked me up and placed me on the bed, then grabbed the phone to call the pack doctors.
My father, wild with fury, pounded his fists into Dante.
Dante howled in agony.
“Police brutality! The police are attacking me!”
“Dominic, stop,” one of my dad’s colleagues stepped in to break up the fight.
Though he said he was trying to stop it, he couldn’t resist kicking Dante a couple of times too.
“Take this beast in. Your wife and Renna need to get to the hospital.”
When Dante heard they were taking him away, he protested. “You have no right to arrest me! This is a family matter! That woman cheated on me—I was just teaching her a lesson!”
My dad nearly lost it again hearing that.
Someone grabbed him from behind to hold him back.
“Dominic, calm down,” the man said before turning to Dante. “You’d better start cooperating. You beat her this badly, and you still think you’re getting off easy?”
“I didn’t commit a crime!” Dante yelled, head held high. “This is just a domestic dispute. At most, It’s domestic violence and domestic violence isn’t 4 crime.”
Clearly, Dante had done his research before raising his hand, which made my heart grow even colder.
One of the officers said in a chilling tone, “Who told you domestic violence isn’t a crime? If it’s serious enough, even an Alpha can go to prison. Your case is at least three years.”
Panic flashed across Dante’s face. “What about her? She cheated on me and made me a cuckold! But I’m the one going to jail just for hitting her?!” My dad shot back, “You say Renna cheated? Then tell me who exactly did she cheat with?”
Outside, Dante was still arguing with the others.
But I couldn’t keep listening. My head tell heavier by the second My strength was draining away. I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Someone noticed me and rushed over.
“Take care of my baby,” I murmured.
That was the last thing I said before I lost consciousness.
When I opened my eyes again, I was in an operating room.
Several pack doctors in scrubs were cleaning up. I watched a nurse scoop the embryo from the tray into a yellow biohazard bag–like it was just another piece of medical waste.
With all the strength I had left, I cried out, “Don’t throw it away!”
Everyone turned to look at me.
One of the pack doctors said, “Luna, your child didn’t make it. According to protocol, we need to dispose of the embryo.”
I had expected this, but the despair still hit me like a wave.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down my face.
“I just want to see it… please,” I begged.
