“What?”
Tristan frowned, confused. “Cancel? What are you talking about? Is your hotel trying to mess with me? How dare you cancel my reservation for the banquet!”
“Not at all, Mr. Ford, please don’t be upset. It’s just that Mrs. Ford came by a few days ago and requested to cancel the event. I was
concerned you might not be aware, so I called to confirm.”
“You’re saying Nicky went to your hotel?”
“Yes, she personally canceled the banquet you had reserved.”
Tristan opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out.
Every detail, every piece of evidence, was telling him the same thing–Nicole truly wanted to leave him.
But why? Why would she do this?
They always had such a good relationship!
His heartbeat quickened, and a dark thought crept into his mind.
Had Nicole found out? Did she know about him and Lisa?
But that was impossible!
He had hidden it so well–everyone had kept it a secret. There was no way Nicole could have discovered the truth.
And it wasn’t like it meant anything. Lisa was just a fleeting distraction. His heart had always belonged to Nicole, and she knew
that.
But deep down, Tristan knew one thing: Nicole would never tolerate his betrayal.
He had woken from countless nightmares, drenched in cold sweat, imagining her reactions if she ever found out. But he had never expected she’d choose such a final, decisive way to leave him.
“Mr. Ford? Are you still there?‘
“Don’t cancel it!”
Tristan’s bloodshot eyes burned as he gripped the phone tightly, his voice breaking into a hysterical roar. “Don’t cancel it! I’ll bring Nicky. I swear, we’ll both be there on time!”
His chest rose and fell with ragged breaths as his mind spiraled deeper into despair. If Nicole was truly gone… no. He refused to accept it. But even if it were true, the event would still go on. If it couldn’t be their anniversary, it would serve as her memorial One way or another, they would still be together.
