Tristan staggered back a few steps, barely able to keep himself upright.
“Why? Why would she burn it?”
That bed was the one they had picked out together during their first year of marriage. Nicole had chosen it herself.
How could she bear to destroy it?
The housekeepers exchanged uneasy glances. They had assumed Tristan already knew.
“Sir… didn’t you know?”
Tristan shook his head, his confusion deepening

How could he have known? He hadn’t been home for days.
Tristan turned and walked back inside the house, only to notice that many of Nicole’s belongings were missing.
He froze for a long moment before pulling out his phone and dialing her number.

No longer in service?
Tristan thought he must have misheard. He checked the contact labeled “Wife” and dialed again.
It was the same number he had memorized years ago, a number he could recite in his sleep. How could it be wrong?
His hand trembled as he clutched the phone. He didn’t want to believe Nicole had canceled her number voluntarily.
But every inquiry he made confirmed the same thing: the number had been deactivated legally and by Nicole herself.
Tristan sank to the floor, his bloodshot eyes filled with despair.
Everything around him screamed the same truth–Nicole was the one who had jumped into the river. She had planned her departure meticulously.
But why? Why would she do this?
They had been fine just days ago. He had just celebrated her birthday with her.
In a few days, they were supposed to celebrate their third wedding anniversary. He’d ordered gifts and even booked a venue for a banquet.
She’d seemed excited about it.
Why would she suddenly decide to leave him?
Tristan abruptly stood up and stormed out of the house. He drove at breakneck speed to the bridge where Nicole had jumped.
Standing on the edge, he looked down at the churning waters below.
From this height, survival was impossible, especially for someone like Nicole, who couldn’t even swim.
Clutching the railing, Tristan’s heart felt as though it was sinking into the depths of the river.
He couldn’t bear to imagine how terrified Nicole must have been as she jumped.
She had always been afraid of heights. Even standing on a step stool used to make her uneasy. How had she summoned the courage to leap from here?
His thoughts were interrupted by the sudden ringing of his phone.
He answered, his voice hollow.
