CHAPTER 7.
“If it isn’t our little runaway. You were so stubborn when you decided to leave. Why are you back now? Did you finally realise how much of a fool you were? Selena didn’t even bother to hide her malice. After all, Kade wasn’t here. The only time she acted like an angel was when Kade was around.
took a breath, trying to keep my anger in check. I managed to ignore a few ignorant wolves, I could ignore Selena too.
Rowan tugged on my hand, his small voice breaking through my thoughts. “Mom, who is she?”
fsqueezed his hand gently. “No one important.”
Selena wasn’t about to give up. She smirked, looking at me like I was a dead wolf already in front of her.
“No one important? That’s so cruel of you, Mira. After all, we were friends.”
Friends? The kind of friends that would steal your mate away from you? If that was what a friend was, then I didn’t want one.
She approached slowly, staring me down.
You know, I almost didn’t believe it when they told me you were back. But then I saw this.” She motioned to Rowan with a disgusted glance. “What a surprise. You brought a prop. Tell me, Mira, where’d you pic up the stray?”

That was it. She didn’t have the right to call my son a stray.
*Enough, Selena. Talk all you want about me but leave my child out of this.” I said, my fingers tightening around Rowan’s hand.
“Enough? Oh, I haven’t even started.” Selena stepped closer, lowering her voice so only I could hear. “Did you really think dragging that fake child here would make Kade take you back? Mira, you’re more pathetic than I thought.”
Her words hit hard. But I refused to let her see that they got to me.
instead, I looked back at her calmly. “Pathetic? Do you see yourself, Selena? Clinging on to a man who clearly doesn’t want you. That’s what y
Her smirk dropped and I could see how affected she was She tried to play it off. “He wants me. He always has.”
ftilted my head. “Really?” I asked. “Then why aren’t you wearing the Luna crest? Or did you keep it somewhere?”

I knew with her personality, she would make sure to flaunt the Luna crest if she really was Luna.
Her face froze, and for the first time, I saw real anger flash in her eyes. It was more satisfying than anything to see the almighty Selena break. “That’s none of your business,” she snapped.
“Must be hard,” I said, keeping my tone light. “All this time, and still not Luna. I wonder why that is.”
Selena’s hands clenched into fists at her sides, and for a second, I thought she might attack me. I pulled Rowan behind me protectively.

call pathetic.”

But she didn’t move forward. Instead, she stepped back, her lips curling into a bitter smile. “Kade’s been… distracted. But don’t think this changes anything. You’re still nothing here, Mira. Watch your back.” She turned round and I watched her as she stormed off. I let out a breath, feeling more relaxed.
After all, Selena was a beta and even though these few years, I’ve gotten stronger and more skilled, she was still naturally stronger than I was. Also, I didn’t want her to hurt my son.
Rowan looked up at me, his amber eyes wide with curiosity. “Mom, why was she so mean?”
“She’s just unhappy,” I said quietly, brushing his hair back. “Some people take it out on others when they don’t get what they want.”
Did she want something from you?”
Not anymore, I murmured, my thoughts swirling.
After all, I’ve left Kade and he was all hers now. Although… they still weren’t mated. It was a weird discovery, but it was none of my business now.
As I turned to head back toward the healer’s cottage, I couldn’t shake the unease that settled in my chest. Selena’s words echoed in my mind. Watch your back, Mira.”
