CHAPTER 10
“Mira, I’m sorry. For everything,” Kade said, his voice low and raw. I could feel his pain, his regret. But what does it matter now? It’s all happened. I couldn’t act like his rejection and
flooked away, trying so hard to hold my tears back. I didn’t answer.
I focused on wrapping his wounds, my hands moving on their own. Why now? Why after all this time he decides to say sorry?
“You don’t have to believe me. But I never stopped thinking about you. I never meant to hurt you. I thought…. I thought I was protecting you.
i scoffed. “Is that supposed to mean something now?”
O
“No.” His voice was quiet. “But it’s the truth.”
The so–called truth didn’t matter anymore.
Не
rejected me. And whether he meant to or not, it broke me.
“You’re done,” I said sharply, standing and stepping back. “You can leave now.”
“Mira-”
Kade. There’s nothing else to talk about.”
didn’t wait for a reply and walked out. His apology didn’t mean anything anymore.
fcould hardly sleep the entire night. Kade’s apology kept bugging me. I didn’t know how to feel.
The truth was… I still loved him. But I couldn’t go crawling back to him after what I’d gone through.
The next morning, I kept myself busy with work around the cabin. Anything to keep my mind off Kade. And by the time I was done, I realised something.
Rowan wasn’t anywhere around. I couldn’t smell him. My heart dropped. “Rowan?” I called, heading outside.
No answer. I looked around and he was nowhere near.
“Rowan!” My voice cracked, fear squeezing my throat.
What’s wrong?” Elma appeared behind me, looking concerned.
He’s
gone. I can’t find him.”
She put a hand on my arm. “Calm down, Mira. Maybe he’s just playing nearby-”

CHAPTER 10
“No,” I snapped, my voice trembling. “He wouldn’t wander off. He knows better.”

My mind was a mess. All I could think of was Selena’s words the last time: “Watch your back…”
Oh no. Before I knew it, I was already sprinting towards the pack grounds.
“Have you seen a little boy? About this tall? Amber eyes?” I asked a group of wolves gathered near the training grounds.
They exchanged glances, shaking their heads.
“No,” one of them said. “Why? Is something wrong?”
“Nothing,” I muttered, already turning away.
Where is he?
I searched everywhere I could, stopping every person I passed. But they all said the same thing, they hadn’t seen him.
i could feel my
mind becoming a complete mess. My son… he was missing.
Before I could finish the thought, a faint scent blew past. Rowan!
Fimmediately followed the scent, my heart pounding as I ran. I was already close when I noticed the direction it led me.
The Alpha’s house. Kade’s house.
“That’s so cool!” Rowan’s excited voice came through.
The sight in front of me was something I would have never imagined. Rowan, sitting in Kade’s lap with two pointed ears at the top of his head. He shifted!
have wolf ears!”
Kade let him do whatever he wanted, a soft sinile on his face as he watched Rowan. They seemed so… peaceful.
For
a second I could actually see what it would have been if Kade and I had mated.
Rowan looked up, his bright eyes locking onto mine. “Mama!”
He ran up to me excitedly, pointing to the furry ears at the top of the head. “Look!”
I didn’t even know what to say. But before I could speak, Kade was already approaching.
taught him how to half–shift.” He said. “You don’t mind, do you? He seems to like it.”
I took a breath, to calm myself. Rowan was fine. That was all that mattered.
i didn’t
answer his question, grabbing Rowan’s hand. “Let’s go.”
Kade’s smile faded and he grabbed my wrist before I could leave. “Mira,”
