Chapter 9
Before I could speak, I heard an angry rebuke.
I immediately bowed and apologized.
Kevin, however, quickly offered a sincere apology to my parents and grandfather, “I’m sorry we didn’t come back sooner to explain. I’m willing to take the punishment for Audrey.”
My grandfather, Henry Carter, maintained his stern expression, but my mother looked quite happy.
My mother greeted Kevin warmly.
I said, “Grandpa, please calm down. We’re very happy together
now.”
After speaking, I hurried to the door to take the little girl from Amanda’s arms.
I accidentally bumped into Amanda.
Tom immediately put down what he was holding and quickly reached out to steady Amanda.
“Be careful. You and Amanda are nothing alike. Girls should be gentle and proper!” Tom said seriously.
Amanda patted Tom’s hand reassuringly.

I said helplessly, “Sorry, Tom!”
“Audrey has a great personality. I love how lively she is,” Kevin said with a smile as he came up behind me.
“Come in and eat, all of you.”
Hearing Henry’s words, Amanda and I exchanged smiles.
Despite his stern tone, he still cared about us deep down.
At the dinner table, Tom held the baby while constantly getting food for Amanda. “This is delicious, try some.”
“This chef is really talented. Next time I’m off work, I need to learn cooking from her.”
Watching Tom take care of Amanda, I was very surprised.
He had always insisted that “men shouldn’t be in the kitchen.”
In my previous life, we often argued about household chores, but now he actually wanted to learn how to cook.
“Honey, I’ve already learned to make everything you like, so could you please stop staring at other people?”
Hearing Kevin’s jealous words, I lowered my head in embarrassment.

Indeed, my life now is very happy.
It seems fate didn’t make a mistake this time. We all found the right person.
After dinner, seeing Tom constantly hovering around Amanda, I
urged them to leave. I finally had time alone with Amanda.
“Amanda, would you like to come with me to Hawaii?”
Amanda seemed very surprised at my suggestion.
I said, “The community center will be closing soon. Tom might lose his job. My factory there is doing really well and I need your help! Most importantly, after how badly Lily hurt you in our previous life, don’t you want to see firsthand how miserable she is now?”
I don’t know which part convinced Amanda, nor how she persuaded Tom, but when we returned, I was contentedly walking arm in arm with Amanda in front, leaving Tom and Kevin trailing behind us.
I was in a good mood the whole way, and even happier when we passed David’s house.
“My dad says you’re just here to serve us. You have to obey our orders.”

Chapter 9
Lily was being pushed around by three boys. She no longer had her former arrogance–she was thin and lifeless.
“That’s not right. You’re family now and should get along. David, you can’t let the children bully Lily like this. She’s your wife,” a neighbor couldn’t help but intervene.
David just stood smoking on the side, not saying a word, allowing his sons to push Lily to the ground, hitting and cursing at her.
“She’s just a slut who destroyed our family. It’s a blessing we haven’t kicked her out yet!”
“This woman has no shame!”
Lily was provoked and suddenly jumped up, pinning the boy who had just spoken to the ground and hitting him. She looked so frail, but when angry, she was like a fierce beast, chilling to witness.
The scene was chaotic. Seeing his son being hit, David rushed forward, punching and kicking Lily. Neighbors stepped in to stop them.
Later I heard that because the incident was so disgraceful, David was immediately discharged from the military without even a chance to find another job. He could only take his sons back to his hometown to find his ex–wife.

disappeared from Hawaii. The island where she was born and raised never heard from her again.
No one knew where she went or how she was doing.
But Amanda and I didn’t want to concern ourselves with these matters anymore.
We were simply too busy to care about people and things that didn’t concern us.
I’ve been working overtime for several days straight, so when I got home, I went straight to bed. Kevin has started to get moody. I’ll need to comfort him in a bit.
