Hearing her words, David rushed forward in panic and grabbed Lily’s arm.
From my angle, I caught a glimpse of David threatening Lily, “Lily, you can’t lie. You can’t ruin my reputation just to target Kevin. I’m a married man.”
Hearing this, Lily looked at George and Kevin with a hurt expression.
She said, “Kevin, I’m sorry. I did this because I was jealous of Audrey. Just now when she brought up our past and pushed me down, I got angry and said things I shouldn’t have. I only care about you. Please don’t be mad at me, okay?”
After speaking, she lowered her head and covered her face.
The onlookers turned their reproachful gazes toward Kevin, and even George was looking back and forth between them.
Seeing the situation reverse, David’s mood improved greatly, and he reached out to help Lily up.
“You two can sort out your own issues,” he said with a smile as he tried to help Lily.
But Lily fell back to the ground. Unfortunately, there was a sharp rock right where she landed.

She cried out in pain, her face turning pale.
“Blood. There’s blood…” someone in the crowd exclaimed. Everyone looked in the direction they were pointing.
A bright red stain was spreading beneath Lily.

“She’s having a miscarriage,” a female neighbor’s whisper clearly reached everyone’s ears in the silent scene.
Lily completely lost her composure, grabbing David’s arm and crying, “David, save our baby. Save me…”
David’s face darkened.
He understood that no matter how he tried to explain, no one would believe him now. His relationship with Lily was completely exposed.
“Get her to the hospital right away!” George roared. David picked up the still sobbing Lily and ran frantically toward the hospital.
I later heard that she did miscarry.
Lily caused a huge scene at the hospital. David, who everyone thought would be disciplined, was discovered to have an invalid marriage certificate with his wife. Afterward, Lily and David became the couple with the largest age gap on the island.

But David still suffered consequences, being transferred to a marginal department and losing his future prospects.
David’s wife had already given him three children. When the children heard he had married someone else, they immediately. dropped out of school and ran to the base.
From then on, the Edwards family became a constant source of drama. The female neighbors never lacked for gossip material when chatting about their family troubles.
However, none of this concerned Kevin and me anymore. The food factory had been built and put into production, running smoothly. We finally had time to return to my hometown.
Our journey went very smoothly.
Standing at my family’s doorstep, I was too nervous to go in.
Kevin smiled, took my hand, and said, “Don’t worry. If anyone scolds you, I’ll protect you. Let’s go in.”
After taking a deep breath, I finally gathered the courage to push open the door.
