16 Infidelity
After putting things down, Jessie rolled up her sleeves and helped with the dishes.
“You don’t have to worry about that. Besides, isn’t it only natural for me to spend money on you and Luke? These things don’t cost much anyway. I know exactly what I’m doing, alright?”
Her small shop had been doing well lately, and she clearly knew how much she was spending. She had also made sure to save some money.
“How have things been recently? Has he been picking on you?” Jessie asked, observing her mother’s expression..
Laura smiled and lowered her gaze. “It’s fine. You don’t need to worry about it.”
She knew her mother didn’t want to talk about it, so she decided not to bring it up anymore. “Oh, by the way, Mom, please come to Quiet River Community this week. Kevin will bring his family over too, and it will be a chance for both families to have dinner together,” Jessie said. Upon hearing this, Laura perked up. “Really? Did my son–in–law agree to it?”
“You’re my mother, why wouldn’t he? Ask Uncle William and tell him to come along, Jessie replied.
“Okay, okay” Laura nodded happily.
Jessie’s sudden marriage still stung a little for Laura, but she understood why it happened. She felt a pang of guilt every time she thought about this.
It would be a good opportunity to see what kind of person Kevin was.
After all, it was a meeting of both families, so they needed to dress appropriately.
Unsure of what her mother was thinking, Jessie helped tidy up the house before leaving.
Laura was going through her clothes, all old styles from years ago, worn out from repeated wearing and washing.
After some thought, Laura decided to buy a few new outfits, at least not to embarrass her daughter.
She had just finished paying with her card when William’s call came in, and he immediately started berating her without reason.
“What did you buy? Why did you spend so much money? Aren’t my earnings real money? You live so comfortably at home, can’t you have some consideration for me? Shouldn’t you show some restraint when spending money at your age?”
Laura’s expression darkened as she listened to her husband’s scolding.
“We’re going to meet Jessie’s parents–in–law this weekend. My clothes are so old, I need to buy a couple of new pieces. I can’t embarrass Jessie, can I? And since when did you link my card to your phone? Now you even want to control my own money?” she responded.
Laura had brought her own card specifically to avoid being scolded by William. It had her personal savings and some money from Jessie, as well as their previous savings.
William coldly huffed. “What do you mean your money? Isn’t all the money in this house earned by me?”
“All this money is from Jessie. What does it have to do with you? Haven’t I always contributed to the household expenses? I stay home every day taking care of the kid, it’s not any easier than your job. Laura retorted angrily, then proceeded to unbind the card at the bank. William’s tone turned impatient. “Alright, I have work to do. I won’t talk to you anymore.”
With that, he hung up, his eyes filled with disgust.
He regretted marrying Laura immensely. He had never thought that she would turn into a middle–aged woman so quickly, no longer dressing up or putting on makeup. Just looking at her made him nauseous. T
A knock on the office door interrupted his thoughts, and a stunning woman walked in, catching his attention. He can’t help staring at her sexy legs. She was his subordinate, Nancy.
Nancy playfully complained, “Mr. Krut, can you help me with this proposal? I really can’t do it myself,”
She purposely stood next to William, emphasizing her curves in hopes of getting his attention. After reviewing it quickly, William agreed. “It’s simple, I will do it for you. Don’t

worry.”
Her sweet voice tugged at William’s heart, and butt. Encouraged by her lack of resistance, he was about to take things further.

But Nancy pushed his hand away, scolding, “Mr. Krut, didn’t we agree to just date? What about your wife and child at home?”
She had mastered the art of keeping just enough distance–close, yet unreachable–leaving William with persistent, restless itchiness that he couldn’t quite scratch.
Nancy wasn’t content with being a clandestine lover, if she was going to be anything in his life, it
had to be his wife.
Nancy often listened to William’s complaints about his wife at home–how she never bothered
to dress up, wear makeup, or take care of herself. Just the thought of her seemed to disgust
him.
Hearing this, Nancy could only think how stupid the woman was. No wonder William had lost interest in her–what man would fancy an overweight, middle–aged woman?
Anyway, it was Nancy who was reaping the benefits now.
Thinking of Laura, William’s eyes showed disdain. He wrapped his arm around Nancy’s waist.
“She can’t compare to you. If it weren’t for the child, I would have already divorced her.” Jessie had inherited Laura’s youthful looks and was even more beautiful than her mother in her youth, also exuded an extraordinary elegance. But as for Laura, age couldn’t be hidden, once ugly, always ugly.
Laura was unaware of William’s infidelity as she walked home with Luke.
At the shop, Jessie tidied up and was about to open the door. The first customer was her good friend, Lilian.
Seeing her, Jessie looked resigned and playfully poked her forehead.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at work? Why are you here? You’re lucky to have a good relationship with your boss. In another place, you would have been fired,” Jessie teased.
Lilian stuck her tongue out and raised an eyebrow. “Who said I came alone?”
She clapped her hands, and Steve entered the shop. Jessie was surprised and asked, “What are you two doing together?”
Her college friend and best friend were together?
Steve immediately saw her misunderstanding and hurriedly explained, “No, we have some business nearby. I heard about your shop from Lilian, so we came over to see if we can help anything. Anyway, we have some time to spare.”
Jessie offered them a taste of the cake she had made. Suddenly, Lilian said, “Jessie, I want some coffee. Do you have any?”
“The coffee beans are out. Let me go buy coffee for you two. Wait for me here, Jessie replied. “No need, I’ll go get it, Lilian said as she left.
She left Jessie and Steve alone in the shop, and an awkward silence settled between them. Steve started a conversation about their college memories, causing Jessie to cover her mouth and laugh.
Kevin saw this scene from his car. The bodyguard hesitated. “Young Master, should we go to
