“Mom, Caleb… he seems to really care about Natalie’s child. What if… What if I don’t get to be Mrs. Lawson?”
“What are you afraid of?” Patricia’s voice was calm and confident. “You gave birth to the Lawson family’s first grandson. That
status alone is enough–there’s nothing to worry about.
“In contrast, Natalie’s child came from someone else. Caleb isn’t an idiot. He’d never raise another man’s child as his own. That
child will never have a claim to the family’s inheritance either.”
Each word pierced Yvette’s heart like a thorn. Patricia’s words actually applied to her and her son. After all, her child wasn’t
Caleb’s.
But there was nothing else she could do now. She could only pray that, in Caleb’s heart, she mattered more than Natalie.
When Caleb returned home, every trace of my existence had been erased. They hadn’t even waited. The moment I left, they had
wiped all signs of me, throwing away everything I owned.
He stood frozen in the empty room, struggling to process what he was seeing.
Frank, Grace, Patricia, and Albert were there too, waiting for him.

An ominous feeling settled deep in Caleb’s gut. “Where’s Natalie? Where’s the baby?”
Grace stepped forward and handed him a set of papers. “Natalie signed the divorce papers. And she got rid of the baby too.”
“Impossible!” Raw and unguarded panic flickered in his eyes. “Natalie would never! She’d never do that. What did you guys do to
her?”
On the sidelines, Yvette clenched her fists. Ever since learning that I had given birth to a son, Caleb had been so emotional, completely different from when she’d had their child.
Just as Patricia had said, who in their right mind would treat someone’s child as their own?
Sensing the tension, Patricia quickly took Yvette’s baby from her arms and held him out toward Caleb.
“Caleb, this is your real son. Natalie’s child was nothing but a disgrace. She didn’t deserve to be your wife, and that child
shouldn’t have been born.”
Caleb said nothing. He just stared at the baby wrapped in the blanket. But something in his eyes made Patricia’s skin crawl with
unease.
“Get lost!” Caleb yelled.
