After the birthday party, we returned home. Once inside, Jonah suddenly pulled me into a kiss. Then he looked at me seriously.
“Gina, you’re one of a kind. No one compares to you.”
I stared at him in a daze. It was as if he knew everything about me—my favorite foods, colors, and even the movies I loved most.
Jonah kissed me again, and I slowly wrapped my hands around his waist. I felt his back tense for a moment, but then in the next second, he scooped me up and carried me into his room.
Eric had been my first and only, but he had pushed me into someone else’s arms. If that was the case, then maybe it was time to move on to someone new. Things with Jonah moved so fast that it almost felt like we were a real couple.
The weekend rolled around again, and everyone decided to take a trip to a resort.
While checking into the lodge, Eric pulled Jonah aside, his expression dark. “Are you two really sharing a room? Can’t you stay separately?”
Jonah laughed. “It’s just sharing a room. What are you so worried about?”
…
The next morning, Eric called Jonah aside, his voice cold.
I happened to be heading downstairs and overheard their conversation.
“Jonah, I see you as my best friend. Yet you slept with my girlfriend!”
Jonah scoffed. “Your girlfriend is Lila, so don’t accuse me of something like that.”
“Jonah! I’m not joking!” Eric snapped. “Stop pretending to be Gina’s boyfriend.”
“Oh? And how do you plan to tell her? That you got bored and wanted to try someone new, so you lied and said I was her boyfriend?” Jonah smirked. “Do you even have the guts to say that?”
“I…”
