Shock was written across Peter’s, Jason’s, and Nancy’s faces. They clearly hadn’t expected Grandma’s sudden appearance.
After my mother’s death, Grandma had moved to a neighboring city and handed over Holmes Group’s operations to Peter, choosing to stay out of business affairs.
In my previous life, she had been the one who recognized and brought me back, but I had chosen to remain silent then, leading
her to believe I was living well within the Holmes family.
When Nancy had slandered my reputation, Grandma had tried to help, but my depression had led me to shut her out, missing out
on our chance to connect.
Seeing her again now, my eyes welled up with tears as I choked out, “Grandma…”
She looked at me with deep kindness, her wrinkled hand gently caressing my cheek. “Oh, Rissa, I’m so sorry. I should’ve been here for such an important day!”
Peter’s jaw dropped in disbelief. “Mother, why didn’t you tell us you were coming?”
Grandma struck her cane against the floor hard enough to make it shake. “I helped Tanya find her daughter after all these years,
and this is how you treat her?”
She pointed at Peter furiously and continued, “If I hadn’t seen the livestream, I wouldn’t have known about your audacity! You’re
nothing but a son–in–law who married into the Holmes family! Since when did you have the right to dictate anything to Rissa?”
The previously chastised reporters suddenly sprang back to life, raising their cameras to capture Peter’s reaction.
Then, they captioned the news with headlines like “Shocking! CEO Revealed to Be Just a Gold–Digger!” and “Real–Life Family
Drama–What a Twist!”
As sensational headlines filled the screen, Peter was livid. He pulled Jason in front of him as a shield and shouted weakly, “Everyone get out, or I’ll sue you for invasion of privacy!”
Nancy, who had been so arrogant earlier, now panicked and clutched at Grandma’s sleeve, pleading, “Grandma… please don’t make such a scene… You’re embarrassing the family…”
Grandma yanked her hand away, her eyes sharp as steel. “Don’t call me grandma! Rissa is my only true grandchild! You’re the ones bringing shame to this family!”
