At that very moment, Eugene felt a searing, splitting pain in his chest. It was as if an invisible thread had been violently torn
apart.
He staggered and collapsed to his knees, losing control as he shifted into his wolf. He understood what this pain meant… It was
the agony of a true mate bond being broken.
But he hadn’t rejected me. So why was it breaking?
He couldn’t bear to consider the other possibility, the one that was far more terrifying–that I might be dead.
Eugene’s pupils contracted sharply.
“Selena!” he howled, his fangs piercing his lower lip as he turned and bolted toward the door.
Kristy grabbed his arm tightly. “Don’t go, Eugene! It’s too dangerous there! We’re in the middle of our wedding too!”
Grace blocked his path, her golden eyes flashing coldly. “A she–wolf who dares to wander off on her own is simply courting death. If she can’t even follow the most basic rules, how could she ever be an Alpha’s true mate? She should’ve died long ago.”
Eugene broke down. “Today was her birthday… I should’ve been with her. This must be the Moon Goddess’s punishment…”
“She just got what she deserved.” Grace sneered. “I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. She’s better off dead.”
“Mom! She’s my fated mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess. I can’t just abandon her!” Eugene howled in anguish.
Kristy stepped in, her scent laced with sweet submission. “That’s easy. Just send a few low–ranked wolves to search. Why would you need to conduct the search yourself? It’s taxing, and you’ll get yourself all dirty.”
“Get out of my way!” Eugene roared.
With a single swipe of his claws, he flung Kristy aside, shattering the wedding decor as he charged out. He completely ignored her screams behind him.
