Chapter 18 Who Takes Her Away?

Evelyn, usually so proud, suddenly lowered her pride and threw her arms around Reynold’s waist from behind. “Reynold, please don’t leave.”
He paused mid–step, unmoving.
Clinging tightly to him, she pouted and said, “I’m sorry, Reynold. I love you too much. That’s why I can’t stand the thought of you being with anyone else.”
Pressing her face against his back, she added in a faint voice, “I feel dizzy.”
After a brief silence, Reynold turned around and scooped her up into his arms. Her slender frame fit effortlessly against his strong build, drawing envious stares from onlookers.
Evelyn wrapped her arms around his neck, revealing a victorious smile.
Half an hour later, Reynold carried Evelyn into Westwood Villa. While his and Catherine’s marital home was in Regal Glade, this villa was his private residence. The decor, dominated by muted tones of black, white, and gray, exuded an air of understated luxúry.
In the master bedroom, he gently placed Evelyn on the bed.
As he turned to leave, she gripped his neck tightly, refusing to let go. “Reynold, are you still upset with me?”
Reynold tried to pry her hands off, but Evelyn leaned closer, her face inches from his. “Rey …
”
The familiar nickname made him freeze. A fleeting memory of Catherine flashed in his mind. She also seemed to have called him ‘Rey.
He must have imagined it. Only Evelyn had ever used that name.
Placing his hands firmly beside her, Reynold replied, “Don’t let this happen again.”
Evelyn knew exactly how to manipulate him. That nickname always softened him, making him indulge her every whim.
Suddenly, Reynold asked, “Evelyn, where’s the emerald pendant I gave you?”
Her expression faltered briefly before she masked it. The pendant wasn’t with her, but she needed time to retrieve it.
“I left it at home,” she lied smoothly.
Quickly changing the subject, Evelyn wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned closer. Their faces were so near that their breaths mingled. In a low, seductive voice, she whispered, “Reynold, I’ve been drugged.”
He looked at her lips and asked flatly, “And?”
She smiled faintly. “I need you to be my cure.”
She tilted her head, moving in for a kiss.
Catherine’s gentle and refined face appeared in Reynold’s mind again. He had just kissed her, and her lips had been soft with a pleasant scent.
As Evelyn moved in to kiss him, Reynold turned his head away to avoid it.
When she didn’t succeed, she pouted. “Why are you pulling away from me?”
Reynold couldn’t explain why he felt this way. Evelyn was someone he cared about, and it was natural for two people who liked each other to kiss.
He didn’t like Catherine.

Yet, the memory of their kiss lingered–her lips still felt fresh against his. As someone who was obsessed with cleanliness, he found it difficult to imagine being intimate with two women in such a short time.
It felt uncomfortable, even a little dirty.
Just then, a knock echoed from the door, and Brian’s voice called out, “Mr. Parker, the antidote has arrived.”
Evelyn was stunned. She hadn’t expected him to have someone look for an antidote for her.
Reynold pulled her hands away from him and stood up.
In frustration, Evelyn grabbed a pillow and threw it at his face. “Reynold, are you even a man?”
She had practically thrown herself at him, even gone so far as to drug herself, yet he still wouldn’t touch her.
The pillow landed on the floor, and Reynold stared at her blankly. “Get some rest,” he said coldly before turning and walking
out.
Evelyn, furious and speechless, could only watch him leave.
Reynold entered his study and leaned against the window. Soon, Brian walked in. “Mr. Parker, Ms. Evelyn has taken the antidote.”
Reynold didn’t turn to face him. “Has the antidote been delivered to Regal Glade?”
Brian replied, “I sent someone with it. But when he arrived, Mrs. Parker wasn’t there. She had already left.”
Reynold’s frown deepened as he slightly turned to face Brian. “Where did Catherine go?”
In truth, Catherine didn’t know Reynold sent that man to bring her an antidote.
Brian explained, “She was taken away by someone.”
Taken away? She’s been drugged so heavily. Who could have taken her?
Reynold’s frown deepened further. “Was it a man or a woman?”
Brian hesitated before answering.
Reynold cut him off, “Forget it. I don’t need to know.”
It didn’t matter to him at all who had taken her.
He didn’t like Catherine. They were ready to get a divorce, so her matters were none of his business.
Reynold said, “You can leave now
“Yes, sir,” Brian said, exiting the room.
Reynold stood alone, gazing out the window. As he slowly unbuttoned his shirt, his reflection showed a distinct mark on his neck–a faint bite, visible in the polished glass.
