Helen asked me to go to her house. And her tone returned to its former seriousness and coldness.
I took a cab. There William was sitting with his parents. They looked as if they were planning to interrogate me.
“Audrey, what the hell is going on?”
Helen asked me first, “How can you lose our grandson?”
Tears fell before I could say anything.

“Why is the Cooper family so unlucky? Audrey, why can’t you just get pregnant?”

I stood up and wiped my tears.

Upon hearing my words, William seemed to be panicking. “Audrey, you promised me you wouldn’t say anything.”
I sneered. “So I deserve to take the fall for you?”
Turning back to his parents, I finally told the truth.

Chapter 7 The Truth
“Tyshawn and Helen, I was pregnant, and twice.”
Tyshawn and Helen were surprised. “What! What’s going on?”
It was about time they knew the truth.
I got pregnant the first year we were married.
It was our first baby. It was precious, and I wanted to keep him, but William didn’t agree.
He didn’t want children. There was no way he would change.
I suffered a miscarriage.
Under William’s insistence, I aborted the baby. 1
William held my hand and asked me to make sure I kept this secret.
He knew his parents wanted grandchildren and knew this would be too much for them to take in.
So I kept it a secret for the sake of my family.
The second time was the year before last. I had a baby accidentally.
William’s attitude was still the same. He said he would never let the child share a single bit of his love for me.
We disagreed. Our first baby had already left us. I wanted to have it this time.
“William said that if I insisted on having the baby, he would have to divorce me.”
It was not cold, but I couldn’t stop my body from shivering.
“I don’t want to leave him. Maybe we can have another baby in the future. Maybe one day he’ll change his mind.”
William listened silently, not daring to say anything.

I was shocked.

I was so angry with this family. I felt dizzy, and my chest was heaving violently.
“Helen, I can’t get the wedding day wrong, right?
“I’ve kept the surgery sheets and invoice, with William’s signature on them. How could it be wrong?”
Helen and William fell into silence. Tyshawn grunted from the side.
“Who knows where you get the surgery sheets.”
Finally, I saw their true faces.
Even though Tyshawn and Helen had learned the facts, they chose to take sides with their son.
So I was responsible for the whole not being able to have kids thing.
I laughed bitterly.
“Tyshawn, Helen, I’ve told you everything. You can check it with William.”
I looked at William.
“I hope you’ll be honest with your parents. You can’t deny the fact that I’d carried your child twice.”
After that, I put on my coat and left.
