Chapter 5
I followed Kevin to the house his parents had left him.
The long–abandoned house was covered in dust, but I had no complaints and started cleaning right away.
Seeing me begin tidying up as soon as I arrived, Kevin immediately put down his luggage and came to help.
Watching Kevin work with such focus, I couldn’t help but thank him: “Thank you for being willing to lend me money. I promise I’ll pay you back as soon as possible!”
Hearing this, Kevin showed a shy smile.
“Don’t mention it. That night, if it weren’t for you…” He paused, then said seriously, “If you hadn’t helped me, I might have really had to marry Madison.”
Kevin’s avoidant attitude toward Madison these past few months was known by everyone in the community.
But Madison didn’t care about his attitude at all. Whatever she wanted, she would get by any means necessary.
Originally that day, he had wanted to make things clear with Madison and cut ties completely, but he never expected Madison to slip him an aphrodisiac.

I couldn’t help but remember Kevin’s breath when he held me before I threw him into the pool.
After Madison left with Victor that day, I made the quick decision to carry Kevin to the nearest pool to help him sober up.
Fortunately, these months of farm life had built up my strength, allowing me to easily carry him to the poolside.
But Kevin was delirious at the time.
On the way to the pool, my body was practically groped all over by him.
Several times my legs went weak and I almost couldn’t keep walking. Luckily the pool was close enough that I managed to escape disaster.
After Kevin sobered up, he immediately said he wanted to take responsibility for me.
Even though I said it wasn’t necessary, he still insisted on marrying me.
I didn’t refuse and agreed to his proposal.
I really did need someone to help me escape this place, and clearly Kevin was the best choice.
In my previous life, Kevin had been sabotaged by Madison and

lost his SAT eligibility, spending his whole life doing odd jobs.
In this life, I believed Kevin could achieve his true potential.
Besides earning money every day, I spent my time asking Kevin for help with studying.
Kevin was an excellent teacher, and I decided to make the most of this opportunity.
Even for simple questions I didn’t understand, he would patiently answer them.
He would carefully analyze problems and teach me step by step.
Kevin had his own insights about studying, which he generously shared with me. With his help, I got more and more questions right and became increasingly confident about the upcoming SAT exam.
Even if I couldn’t get into an Ivy League school, I felt that getting into a state university would be great, especially since state universities were more practical than private ones at this time!
We lived peacefully.
Kevin and I grew more and more in sync with each other.
Sometimes just by making eye contact, we could understand what the other was thinking.

Just before the SAT exam, an unwelcome visitor knocked on our
door.
“Emily, open up! I know you’re home. Open the door now, or I’ll spread your scandal around!”
The continuous shouting drew complaints from the neighbors.
I finally put down my test papers and opened the door.
Madison, who had been frantically pounding on the door, lost her balance and fell to the ground.
