Chapter 5 The Sealed Archives Room
She hadn’t been happy in her past life, though she had been Theron’s wife.
He had barely come home, serving in the military most of the time.
She had taken care of everything at home.
Everything–from finding jobs for his family members, taking care of his sick parents, doing chores, to raising Darrell -had been exhausting her.

She preferred staying in the lab and doing her research, which was something she really wanted.
She admitted she had been a complete fool in her past life, sacrificing everything because of her love for him.
This time, she’d live for herself.
“Lizzie, I know you’re just saying this out of spite.” Theron rubbed the bridge of his nose wearily. “You know Efren is the only reason why I’ve been taking care of Johanna. I owe them both.”
Utterly pissed off, Lizzie let out a derisive laugh. “Yeah, you owe her. Then why should I pay the price? You sacri- ficed my job, my future, and my entire life just because you feel guilty toward her! If you really wanna repay her that. much, feel free to marry her and protect her however you want. I understand. I promise I won’t stand in your way.”
She said this very seriously.
After what had happened in her past life, she no longer had any hope in him. If, even in her past life, he had simply told her the truth that he’d protect Johanna his entire life and asked her to leave, she would’ve left without any hesita- tion.
As her thoughts wandered back to her past life, her heart ached terribly.
Theron sensed her seriousness, and his breath hitched. He thought, “How could she think like that? I love her! I just want to help Johanna.”
He said, “Lizzie, I just wanna offer Johanna a job so that she can have a stable life.”
Lizzie sneered inwardly, thinking, “Have a stable life to better raise her kid, right?”
She yanked his hand away with all her might, but she couldn’t exert much force since she was in a wheelchair. Be- sides, his grip was unyielding, making it even harder for her to break free.
She looked up, her reddening eyes meeting his somehow bloodshot eyes.
“You could’ve secured her a stable job in a lot of ways, but you chose to hurt me,” she accused coldly word by word.

“Lizzie!” Theron clutched her hand even more tightly. She got him all wrong. He really wanted to marry her and had never thought of hurting her.
“Johanna won’t be satisfied with a mere job,” she stated firmly.
In her past life, Johanna had let her take all the blame and had still been involved with Theron after getting her job.
He’d nail the job for Johanna, get her a promotion, secure research funding for her, and raise her child…
“Lizzie, all I want is you. We won’t break up.‘
”
Theron’s eyes were bloodshot as he said this softly yet firmly.
It almost sounded as if he’d always choose her without hesitation.
He, a cold, stern soldier, who had always kept his feelings to himself, actually confessed his feelings for her.
If it were in her past life, she would have been so touched that she’d compromise on everything.
But now, all she felt was bugged. She knew very well that whenever Johanna was involved, he’d always choose Jo- hanna.
“I know you’re still mad at me. After you calm down…”
“Mr. Howland!”
An anxious cry from afar interrupted him.
Lizzie closed her eyes. She was no stranger to the voice–it was Adrienne Stanley, her colleague at Equinox Research Laboratory who was also strongly in favor of Johanna and Theron being an item.
She and Adrienne had never gotten along, and after Johanna’s arrival, Adrienne firmly believed Johanna and Theron were meant to be.
In her past life, Adrienne had told everyone that Johanna and Theron were perfect for each other after Lizzie left the lab. Her reason was that Theron had always cared for Johanna and even pulled strings for Johanna’s promotion.
Upon hearing Adrienne’s voice, Lizzie knew Theron would soon leave her for Johanna again.
Adrienne ran over, stood in front of them, and said anxiously while clutching her stomach and panting, “M–Mr. How- land, Hanna fell. She’s having terrible abdominal pain…”
Theron wanted to coax Lizzie so that she wouldn’t mention anything about a breakup again.
But he immediately changed his mind upon hearing Adrienne’s words.
He let go of Lizzie’s hand and strode out.
After a few steps, he realized something and looked back at Lizzie. “Lizzie, there are… things about Johanna that I can’t explain to you here. I’ll just go and see how she’s doing. I’ll explain everything to you after I come back.”
With that, he turned to leave.

He thought, “With so many people here, I can’t tell Lizzie Johanna’s secret. Lizzie’s just having a tantrum. She’s al- ways so understanding, and I’m sure she’ll get it after she calms down.”
The nurse stomped her foot in anger when she saw Theron leave Lizzie behind once again.
She gripped the wheelchair handles. “I’ll take you back to your ward…”
“No. I wanna check out.”
Lizzie said this resolutely.
She knew Theron would take Johanna here for a check–up, and she had no intention of seeing the despicable duo at all. They sickened her.
Besides, she hadn’t forgotten the most important thing for her right now. She needed to go to Equinox Research Labo- ratory and find the file to prove her innocence.
Patients stayed in the hospital to recover more quickly and better. But Theron’s presence might make things worse for Lizzie.
Seeing the seriousness in Lizzie’s eyes, the nurse nodded. “Alright. I’ll help you.”
Lizzie didn’t have many things when she was hospitalized, so she left quickly after going through the formalities.
A cold wind blew, and the leaves in the Equinox Research Institute rustled.
Sitting in the wheelchair, Lizzie gripped the armrests tightly and moved forward bit by bit.
Equinox Research Laboratory was only a half–hour walk from Equinox Hospital, but as she looked up, she felt she’d never reach the destination.
It was her first time in a wheelchair. There were already blisters on her palms, and the pain was killing her. But she gritted her teeth and pressed on, ignoring the pain.
She was already drenched in sweat when she arrived at the lab.
Breathing a sigh of relief, she slowly wheeled herself to the archives room.
However, as she reached the door, she saw it was sealed shut.
“Charlie, how come the archives room is sealed?” She looked at Charlie Woolery, the gatekeeper.
Charlie shook his head. “Some officials came here yesterday, saying they needed to inspect the place, so they sealed it off. This is all I know.”
Lizzie’s heart sank.
In her past life, Theron had successfully coaxed her into leaving the lab, and she knew nothing about the archives room being sealed.
“Charlie, do you remember who was here yesterday?”

“A couple of officials and a bigshot. But he stood afar, and I didn’t see his face clearly. I don’t know what they want. It’s above my pay grade.”
She clutched the armrests tightly. “Do you know how long the inspection will take?”
“Sorry.” Charlie shook his head.
She pursed her lips, having no choice but to give up. It seemed she had to come back another day.
As she was about to go back to the dorm, she saw Theron walking over while supporting Johanna carefully. Obvious- ly, they were heading back to the dorm, too.
Lizzie had no intention of seeing them right now. Just then, a familiar figure ran toward her from a distance.
Recognizing the person’s face, she greeted, “Glenna.”
