The man noticed that her knees were giving way, so he extended his strong arm to wrap around her delicate waist, holding her securely in his embrace.
He then pulled away from her, ending the kiss abruptly.
Catherine’s face flushed crimson. “You …”
Reynold’s voice was deep and mocking. “So this is what you mean by not having feelings for me anymore? One kiss and you’re already reduced to a hot, wet mess?”
His words hit Catherine like a cold splash of water, turning her flushed face pale with shame and anger. So, he had kissed her solely to humiliate her.
He had deliberately refrained from closing his eyes during the kiss, just so he could watch her with cold indifference as she succumbed to his kiss.
A mischievous gleam twinkled in Reynold’s eyes as he looked at the remnants of desire in hers. “Don’t tell me you’re this sensitive?”
At his age, he understood everything about intimacy. He was using her lack of experience to mock her mercilessly.
Catherine was seething at his words. She had never felt so humiliated in her life.
She hated him, but even more, she hated herself.
Because her body still reacted to his seduction.
Maybe deep down in her heart, she still loved him.
And this gave him all the reason he needed to mock her.
But Catherine wasn’t the type to let anyone walk all over her. If someone crossed her, she’d strike back without hesitation.
She composed herself and leaned in closer to him. “Yeah, since you can’t satisfy me, I guess I’ll have no choice but to find someone else. You went to Evelyn, so I can go find someone else, too. Reynold, what are you so proud of? If Kevin kissed me, I’d probably react the same way.”
She made sure to emphasize the name “Kevin.”
Reynold was clearly stung. He sneered, “Oh, that’s too bad. I should’ve recorded that little moment and sent it to Kevin. Let him see what kind of leftover woman he’s been dating!”
Furious, Catherine stood on tiptoe and bit the corner of Reynold’s lip.
Reynold groaned in pain, the metallic taste of blood spreading in his mouth. She had bitten him until it bled.
Reynold grabbed her face, his eyes burning with anger. “Are you a dog? Why do you always bite people?”
Catherine glared back defiantly. “You better think about how you’re going to explain that wound on your lip to Evelyn tomorrow. You said Kevin is dating your leftover. By your logic, isn’t Evelyn dating the secondhand man I didn’t want anymore?”
Reynold was stunned by her retort.
That d’mn woman! How dare she call him a secondhand man?
“You can date whoever you want, but Kevin is absolutely off–limits!”
Because Kevin is my buddy, and it bothered me that you’re dating him! Reynold thought to himself.
Reynold sized Catherine up and down before sneering, “You think Kevin would be interested in you? Don’t be ridiculous. All you can do is seduce him with your dance in the club. You’re just a country girl who dropped out of school at 16 with no

proper education or job. Kevin’s standards aren’t that low. He’s probably just bored and wants to try something new, but he’ll get tired of you quickly.”
Catherine was left speechless.
She couldn’t believe he’d looked down on her like that!
Maybe men were just like that–unwilling to let go of something, even if they didn’t want it themselves.
Instead of getting angry, Catherine smiled. “Do you think I looked good dancing in the club today?”
Reynold froze, clearly taken aback by her words.
Catherine shoved him away forcefully. “From now on, I’ll dance for him every day. Lap dance, pole dance … I’ll show him something new every time to keep him intrigued.”
With that, Catherine stopped paying attention to him and headed upstairs.
Catherine entered the bedroom, and Reynold trailed behind her with a grim look. “Grandma’s health isn’t good right now, so let’s put the divorce on hold. You need to stay here tonight and pretend to be a loving couple with me. Do you understand what I mean?”
Though his words were harsh, Catherine agreed because it concerned Melinda’s condition.
She turned to look at the man and flashed a graceful smile. “I have no objections, though I’m not sure if Evelyn can wait.”
Reynold gave her an icy glance and said, “You sleep in the bed. I’ll take the couch. I’m going to take a shower first.”
With that, Reynold entered the bathroom to shower.
A melodic ringtone echoed through the room as a call came in—it was from Xander. Catherine answered the phone, and Xander’s voice came through, “Cath, did you decline Evelyn’s order?”
Catherine replied, “Yes, I did.”
Xander hurriedly said, “We can’t cancel this order. When we took on the case, Reynold had paid a huge deposit. Now we’ve received a legal letter from him, saying that he’s going to sue us for compensation if we cancel the order. Reynold’s legal team is the best in the country, and they’ve never lost a case. Cath, we could go bankrupt if he decides to sue us.”
Catherine was stunned by what she was hearing.
Xander continued, “Cath, Reynold is not someone you want to mess with. He’s demanding that you show up at the Holistic Hospital tomorrow. He wants to see you!”
Catherine could feel her temples throbbing with a headache. Reynold had always been a ruthless man. From the moment Xander took the order for her, she knew she wouldn’t be able to escape unscathed.
