Laura peeked at the fancy car trailing them, sensing that things were about to get interesting. “Kevin, can you get rid of Mr. Parker’s car?”
Kevin replied, “I usually race with him. Reynold’s steady driving makes it hard to keep up.”
Kevin caught a glimpse of Catherine’s stunning face in the rearview mirror. “Reynold doesn’t often face real competition. If you get the chance, you should try racing him and see who comes out on top.”
Catherine smiled but didn’t reply.
Reynold’s car stayed right on their tail. Kevin stepped on the gas.. “I’ll get rid of him now.”
In the car behind them, Reynold gripped the steering wheel with one hand, Evelyn sitting next to him. As Kevin sped up, Reynold’s fingers tightened, and he too accelerated in pursuit.
The speed kept increasing, and the car was moving faster and faster. Evelyn felt as though she might be thrown out at any second and grew uneasy. “Reynold, please slow down! Don’t drive so fast!”
Reynold’s face remained composed, his sharp features unwavering. However, the coldness in his gaze suggested a simmering tension. It seemed he hadn’t heard Evelyn’s plea as the Rolls–Royce powered through the neon–lit streets, gliding through the night like a king in his realm.
Evelyn, whose heart was naturally fragile, went pale and screamed, “Reynold, slow down, please stop–ah!”
Her panicked scream forced Reynold to slam the brakes, bringing the Rolls–Royce to an abrupt stop.
Breathing heavily and visibly shaken, Evelyn blurted out in fear, “Reynold, what’s with the reckless speed?”
Reynold’s chiseled features remained impassive as his sharp eyes flicked upward, catching sight of the Lamborghini that had already vanished into the distance during his brief stop.
He pressed his thin lips together and asked coolly, “Are you alright?”
Evelyn shook her head lightly. “I’m fine,” she replied.
Pausing for a moment, she added, “I can’t believe Catherine has the nerve to mess with Kevin. Did you notice how she danced in the club earlier? I’ve heard she grew up in the countryside, dropped out of school at 16, and only learned cheap tricks to ensnare men. She’s truly shameless–completely lacking dignity!
Reynold’s eyes darkened as Catherine’s alluring, fluid movements from the club replayed in his mind. Evelyn wasn’t entirely wrong–she had clearly mastered the art of captivating men.
Even someone as selective as Kevin seemed unable to resist her charm.
“Reynold, are you finalizing your divorce with Catherine today?” Evelyn asked, breaking his thoughts.
“Not yet,” he replied flatly.
“Why not?” she pressed, her tone edged with impatience. “Weren’t you planning to end it with her today?”
Evelyn had assumed Reynold and Catherine were already divorced.
Reynold explained, “Grandma is very fond of Catherine. For the sake of her health, the divorce will have to wait.”
Melinda had intervened?
Evelyn’s heart sank. She was well aware of Melinda’s dislike for her, and with Melinda favoring Catherine, it made her the biggest obstacle in Evelyn’s plans.
A wave of unease washed over Evelyn Could it mean that as long as Melinda disapproved, the divorce wouldn’t happen? And if that were the case, would her dream of becoming Mrs. Parker remain forever out of reach?

Evelyn’s frustration bubbled over, and she snapped, “Reynold, why do you always prioritize your grandmother’s wishes? What about me? My youth is slipping away. How much longer am I supposed to wait for you?”
Reynold’s sharp gaze lifted as he regarded her with a calm intensity. “Three years ago,” he said evenly, “you could have been Mrs. Parker if you’d wanted. Catherine has nothing to do with this now.”
Evelyn was stunned into silence, unable to respond. Reynold’s words had pierced straight through her defenses.
Evelyn quickly shifted her approach, her cleverness on full display. She leaned her petite frame against him, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Reynold, I’m sorry. It’s just that I want to be with you so badly. Don’t you want to marry me?”
Her sweet, flirtatious voice seemed to bounce off Reynold without leaving a trace. He gently removed her hands and responded flatly, “I’ll take you home first.”
With no other option, Evelyn leaned back in her seat, her gaze darkening. She wasn’t someone who enjoyed waiting–she preferred taking matters into her own hands. She needed to ensure that Reynold and Catherine’s divorce happened soon!
Even Melinda couldn’t stop her!
Thirty minutes later, the Rolls–Royce pulled up on the lawn of the Parkers‘ old mansion, and Reynold made his way inside.
As he stepped into the living room, there was no sign of Catherine–she still hadn’t come home.
Reynold’s temper flared. How dare she arrive later than him?
Based on the distance, Kevin should have already dropped her off–unless she decided to stay out longer, possibly with Kevin!
Reynold pulled out his phone and called Catherine without hesitation.
The melodic ringtone barely lasted a moment before the call connected. Bringing the phone to his ear, Reynold’s voice was cold and sharp as he demanded, “Catherine, why aren’t you home yet?”
Catherine’s calm, clear tone came from the other end, “Mr. Parker, have you forgotten? I told you I wouldn’t be returning to the old mansion anymore.”
Reynold’s expression darkened. “And what am I supposed to tell Grandma if she doesn’t see you? Catherine, come back right now. Why do you enjoy wandering outside so much? Who are you meeting out there … ”
Catherine abruptly ended the call, a sharp “beep beep” echoing through the phone.
Reynold stared at the screen, speechless.
