Chapter 7
Even when Dante was taken away, he was still saying he loved me.
Thinking back on our seven years together, and the fists he had thrown at me, I couldn’t tell if his love was real, or was just manipulation.
Learning that Dante would be going to jail, Aveline, whom I hadn’t seen in a long time, suddenly showed up at my door.
As soon as she arrived, she began pleading with me.
“Renna, I know there’s a misunderstanding between you and Dante. This misunderstanding is my fault. I apologize. I shouldn’t have worn your underwear.”
She slapped herself across the face as she spoke, her attitude unusually sincere.
“You and Dante have been together for so many years. Please don’t let something so small destroy your marriage.”
Hearing this, I was furious. “Small thing? Dante shredded my mother’s back to ribbons and killed my unborn child. You call that small? How about I hit your back with a bat and see how did you feel?”
Aveline recoiled.
She tried to minimize the issue. “Dante was wrong, but the crime he committed isn’t that severe. You’re still young. You can have another child. But Dante is an Alpha. How can he go to jail? His life would be ruined if he was in jail.”
I said coldly, “He has only himself to blame. What does that have to do with me?”
Aveline wanted to say more, but I had her escorted out.
I didn’t realize this was just the beginning.
Since the trial between Dante and me still had some time left, Aveline began showing up in various places, causing trouble for me.
Sometimes she showed up at my house, other times on the street.
The worst incident was when she caused a scene in front of my old pack’s Alpha.
Although the Alpha helped me get rid of her, her actions spread rumors within the pack. They warned me to handle it and avoid such incidents in the
future.
Before I could figure out how to deal with it, I saw Aveline on TV.
Upon closer inspection, I realized Aveline had sought help from a local mediation organization, which also ran a local channel program.
On camera, Aveline tearfully accused me.
“Sure, my boy laid hands on her, but what marriage doesn’t have its rough patches? Just because her father is werewolf police, they railroaded my son straight to jail. Doesn’t that seem a bit extreme?”
Domestic violence, werewolf police, conviction.
These words strung together instantly attracted tens of thousands of viewers to the live broadcast.
As I watched a crowd of people head toward my house, I turned off the TV and went into my bedroom.
Soon, the doorbell rang.
I opened the door, and of course, Aveline was standing there with a host and a cameraman.
As soon as she saw me, she said, “Ms. Montague, this is my daughter–in–law.”
“Aveline, what’s going on here?” I pretended to be unaware, “I was just about to come find you.”
She frowned, “Why did you try to find me?”
“To give you my underwear,” I said, smiling at the camera. “Did you guys know? My mother–in–law loves wearing my worn underwear. She even got caught by another man’s wife because of it.”
Aveline instantly flew into a rage. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
I feigned innocence. “I’m not making it up. It was my dad who mediated when you slept with another man. Don’t you remember?”
Aveline panicked, speaking to the camera. “Don’t believe her! She’s lying. She must have seen the live broadcast and is making things up!” Chapter 7
