Chapter 5
At the doctor’s signal, the nurse retrieved the embryo.
It had been two months–it already had a vaguely human shape.
It lay there quietly, curled up.
My baby.
The child I had waited seven years for.
I broke down in tears.
The pack doctor tried to comfort me, saying I could have more children in the future.
I wanted to take the embryo with me, but the doctor said it was considered medical waste and couldn’t be taken
It wasn’t until I was wheeled out of the operating room that I saw my dad.

After I told him about it, he turned to the doctor and said it was evidence. Only then did they agree to give it to us.
I asked him, “How’s Mom? Is she okay?”
“Your mom’s okay, just some surface wounds. She passed out from high blood pressure.” My father looked like he’d aged ten years me a tired smile and told me to focus on getting better. “We’ll visit her when you’re stronger.”
I asked again, “What about Dante?”
“He’s been detained. Once you recover, we’ll deal with him together. Don’t worry. He’s definitely going to prison.”
I nodded.
But thinking back on everything that had happened today, I couldn’t hold back my grief.
After I stayed in the hospital for a few days, my father brought me and some documents to the werewolf police station.
Even just a few days in detention had worn Dante down.
Life inside hadn’t been easy.
He sat there, bruised and battered.
When he saw me, his eyes lit up.

A nearby werewolf officer sneered, “You broke the law and still expect to walk out? This counts as intentional injury–you’re going to prison.”
“Intentional injury?” Dante chuckled. “This was just domestic violence. If that’s a crime now, then what about Renna? She was cheating on me!”
Hearing that, my dad spoke up. “Who cheated?”
Dante said, “Dominic, you don’t know yet, do you? Your slut daughter was sleeping with Alpha Xander of the Newmoon Pack.”
My dad slapped him across the face. “Renna had no connection with Xander. The one who slept with him was your mother!”
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Dante stared in disbelief, glaring at my father.
“I’m not joking,” one of my dad’s colleagues said, pulling out a tablet and playing a video.
It turned out that just a few days ago, Xander’s Luna, Sienna, had confronted him about the affair–and the fight had escalated all the way to the werewolf police station.
My dad had been the one to mediate.
After an investigation, they discovered that Xander’s milstress was my mother–in–law, Aveline.
The two had been hooking up since Dante’s Alpha training days. That’s why Xander kept calling himself Dante’s “father“.
The irony part was that while Dante was beating me to a pulp, his mom was begging my father to keep it a secret.
Dad had just agreed her request when our neighbor’s call came through.
In the video, Xander clearly admitted the affair with Aveline, and she was shown desperately pleading with my dad.

Dante’s face darkened. His fists clenched tightly, and he slammed them onto the table.g
“No way. This is a lie. You’re all trying to fool me. If my mom was with Xander, then why were Renna’s panties at his house?!”
“Because your mother stole them.”
My dad let out a long sigh.
When he had handled the Xander case, even Sienna had refused to believe it at first.
After all, who would willingly accept that their husband’s mistress was a fifty–year–old woman?
She had also brought up the panties.
But Aveline said she thought mine was prettier and wanted to spice up her affair with them, especially since Xander had been avoiding sex with her lately.
The truth shattered Dante completely.
He grabbed at his hair and let out a guttural scream.
It looked like he was ready to tear Xander apart with his bare hands.
