27 Chapter 27: Words Like Knives
I slammed the door behind me, rage boiling beneath my skin. The sight of Orion’s lips on Seraphina’s haunted me, burned into my memory like a brand. Her swollen lips, her flushed cheeks. The way she’d looked at him. 1
Fuck.
I hadn’t felt this kind of jealousy in years. Not since we were teenagers and I thought I’d lost her forever.
I paced the hallway outside her room, my wolf clawing to get back to her, to claim her properly. To erase all traces of my brother from her skin.
Before I could stop myself, I was pushing her door open again.
She stood by the window, her robe cinched tightly around her slender waist, her wet hair cascading down her back. She turned, eyes widening as she saw me.
“I told you to leave,” she said, her voice steady despite the rapid pulse I could see at her throat.
“Did you enjoy it?” The words came out rougher than intended.
Her eyes narrowed. “What?”
“My brother’s kiss. Did you enjoy it?”
A small, cruel smile curved her lips. “I did, actually. Very much.”
Each word was a dagger. I stalked toward her, closing the distance between us in three long strides.
“More than you’d enjoy mine?” I challenged, looming over her.
“I’d pick him over you any day,” she said

her chin defiantly.
Her words echoed those from years ago, the day my heart shattered: “I’d never choose you, Kaelen. Not if you were the last wolf on earth.“*
Without thinking, I grabbed her, one hand tangling in her damp hair, the other gripping her waist. I crushed my lips to hers, swallowing her gasp of surprise.
For a moment, she stood frozen. Then, to my shock, her arms wound around my neck and she kissed me back with equal ferocity.
The taste of her–honey and cinnamon–drove me wild. I deepened the kiss, my tongue claiming

her mouth as my wolf howled in satisfaction. This was right. This was mine.
I backed her against the wall, my body pressing against hers, feeling every soft curve. The thin fabric of her robe was a flimsy barrier, already parting as my hand slipped inside to cup her
breast.
She moaned against my lips, her back arching into my touch. The sound sent fire racing throug my veins.
“Tell me again you’d choose him,” I growled against her mouth.
Instead of answering, she bit my lower lip, hard enough to sting. Challenge sparked in her sea–blue eyes as she pulled back just enough to meet my gaze.
“Maybe I need more convincing,” she taunted.
I untied her robe with one sharp tug, letting it fall open. My breath caught at the sight of her naked body—all soft curves and smooth skin. My hands roamed freely, tracing the dip of her waist, the flare of her hips.
“Is this convincing enough?” I asked, my voice rough as I trailed kisses down her neck.
Her head fell back against the wall, giving me better access. “Not even close,” she breathed.
The challenge in her words made my blood burn hotter. I lifted her, hands gripping her thighs, and carried her to the bed. She bounced lightly as I dropped her onto the mattress, her hair fanning out around her like a halo.
For a moment, I just stared. Seraphina Moon, the girl who’d haunted
y dreams for years, lay spread before me like a feast. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, her eyes dark with desire she
couldn’t hide.
I knelt on the bed, pushing her thighs apart with firm hands. Her breath hitched as I settled between them, my clothed body a stark contrast to her nakedness.
“Let’s see if I can change your mind,” I murmured, trailing my fingers up her inner thigh.
She shivered but maintained her defiant glare. “You can try.”
I smirked, accepting the challenge. My fingers found her center, already slick with arousal. Her hips bucked involuntarily as I stroked her.
“So wet for someone you don’t want,” I observed, satisfaction surging through me.
“Physical response,” she gasped as I circled her most sensitive spot. “Doesn’t mean anything.”
I leaned closer, my lips brushing her ear. “Keep telling yourself that, little omega.

instantly–she was untouched. Virgin. The knowledge sent a primal surge of possessiveness through me.
Mine. She was mine.
I added a second finger, stretching her carefully despite my urgency. Her virginity was unexpected, precious. Even in my anger and jealousy, I wouldn’t hurt her that way.
Her walls clenched around my fingers as I worked them in and out, my thumb continuing its teasing circles. Small, breathless moans escaped her lips, growing louder as I increased my pace.
“That’s it,” I encouraged, watching her face contort with pleasure. “Let go for me.”
“Kaelen,” she whispered, her hands clutching at my shoulders.
The sound of my name on her lips nearly undid me. I captured her mouth again, swallowing her increasingly desperate sounds as I curled my fingers inside her, finding the spot that made her squirm.
I could feel her getting close, her inner muscles fluttering around my fingers. Her nails dug into my skin through my shirt as she trembled on the edge.
Then she was coming, her back arching off the bed, a broken cry escaping her lips. I watched, mesmerized by her beauty in release, by the knowledge that I had given her this pleasure.
As her body still shuddered with aftershocks, her eyes snapped open, meeting mine with unexpected clarity. A smile curved her lips–not soft with satisfaction, but sharp with malice.
“Orion did it better,” she said, her voice clear despite her breathlessness.
The words were like ice water down my spine. Rage and hurt collided inside me, each fighting for dominance.
“What did you say?” I asked, my voice deadly quiet as I withdrew my fingers from her body.
“You heard me,” she replied, sitting up and pulling her robe around her. “Orion made me feel things you never could.”
Lies. They had to be lies. But they cut deep anyway, reopening old wounds I thought had scarred over.
“You’re lying, I said, standing from the bed. “He kissed you. That’s all.”
She shrugged, a cruel smile playing on her lips. “Believe what you want.”
Pain twisted into fury inside me. I wanted to hurt her back, to make her feel even a fraction of the agony clawing at my chest. Words formed on my tongue, poison meant to wound. “Your pussy isn’t even that tight, I said coldly. “Lilith feels better”

It was a lic—a blatant, obvious lie given what I’d just discovered about her virginity. But I needed to harm her, to see pain in those sea–blue eyes that had just dismissed me.
“Must be all the werewolves you’ve been whoring around with,” I added for good measure, the words tasting like acid.
To my frustration, Seraphina just laughed–a genuine, amused sound that cut deeper than any angry retort could have.
“We both know that’s a lie,” she said, her eyes clear and unaffected. “I’m a virgin, Kaelen. Or at least, I was before your fingers. Something you’d have known if you’d ever bothered to learn anything about me instead of believing Lilith’s gossip.”
She stood, tightening her robe around her with dignity I didn’t expect.
“Get out,” she said calmly. “Go find Lilith if she satisfies you so well.”
I opened my mouth, then closed it. What could I say? She’d called my bluff, remained unbroken when I’d tried my best to shatter her.
“This isn’t over,” I finally said, hating how weak the words sounded.
“It is for tonight,” she replied firmly. “Out.”
I left, slamming the door behind me. My body still thrummed with unfulfilled desire, my fingers still wet with the evidence of hers. The scent of her arousal clung to me, a maddening reminder of what I’d just walked away from.
I stormed to my room, needing a cold shower and solitude to sort through the chaos in my mind. But when I opened my door, I found Lilith kneeling naked on my floor, her eyes hopeful.
“Waiting for me,” she purred.
