Fiona POV
“Thank you so much!” I call to the lady who’d been helping me. She waves and welcomes me back anytime.
After two days of searching, I finally found the necklace. Since Chloe loves high fashion items, I researched some of the brands she loves and found a one–of–a–kind necklace for auction. I’d been worried about the price, but when I brought up the cost to Nolan, he handed me a black card, saying money was not a problem.
The final amount had me sweating, but I guess when you’re King and the owner of an incredibly successful company, more than five zeros doesn’t matter to you.

Now, Chloe will be the proud owner of a completely unique and high fashion necklace, and Nolan will surely gain the title ‘father of the year.‘
When I get back to the office, I make a beeline for Nolan’s office. I want to give his card and the necklace back to him as soon as possible because honestly, it’s a bit nerve wracking to have something so expensive in my bag.
I knock on his office door because, unlike Andy, I have self–preservation instincts. Silence follows my knock, so I knock again, which results the same way.
Nolan doesn’t have any appointments today, so he should be in his office, but when I push the door open and peek my head in, it’s empty. Several feelings wash over me, first with confusion then surprise, then disappointment when I enter the empty office.
Where did he go? I thought he would be here when I got back and to be honest, I was looking forward to seeing him. I tried to hide it earlier when we talked, because I don’t want him to see my attraction, and I don’t want him to find out.
We’re not meant to be, and nothing good would come from a workplace romance.
So, after assuring myself this is for the best, I lay the giftbox and Nolan’s card on his desk and lock the office door behind me.
Work doesn’t stop when the boss is gone, so I continue my day as usual, except it takes a turn for the worst when I go to make
copies for an upcoming meeting.
“Did you hear?” Somone whispers.
“I did! He was at a hotel with her!” Another woman whisper shouts. “It’s all over the news.

the King can’t keep himself out of the gossip circles either. Everyone’s dirty laundry gets aired eventually.”
The King? Gossip?
Confusion rolls through me as I slip into the copy room. Thankfully, it’s quiet and gives me a moment to compose myself before pulling my phone out and opening up the news. Images of Nolan and a beautiful woman walking into and out of a hotel are
plastered all over the news.

“This just in, King Nolan and renowned actress Tara Fields have been exposed,” the news announcer says. “Their relationship is yet to be determined, but we have a source that claims to have seen them coming out of the same room looking a little… musscu.
Maybe they’re wrong. Not ever news report is true, especially when it comes to famous people or people of power.
My heart clenches painfully in my chest, and I quickly close my phone when the copy room door opens. Two women walk in, glance at me, then walk over to the small table in the corner to sit down.
“I heard that King Nolan and Tara have been in an on again off again sexual relationship for years. This isn’t the first time gossip between the two of them has been on the news,” the brunette says.
Silently, I listen while feeding papers into the copy machine. My chest tightens with each of her words, but I can’t stop listening. Does Nolan really have a girlfriend?
“Oooh, I heard that his relationship with Tara may be the reason he divorced his wife,” the red head says excitedly. “I looked it up and the circling gossip between Tara and the King was before he and his wife split up.‘
