Chapter 18
Alaric’s POV
“Watch your mouth, Alaric.” Richard warned, his eyes blazing.
“Father, this is the last time I will warn you.” I retorted, walking closer to him and leaning downwards, I whispered to him, “From now on, think of us as rivals, as that company that you do desperately want to yourself, will never be yours. Mark my words, Richard Thorne, your greediness will be your downfall, and I’ll make sure of that.”
In my past life, I was able to take the company from him, although there were a lot of sacrifices on the way, but this time, none of that would happen.
Stepping backwards, I continued, “Grandfather said he wanted to see mom and I, so I’ll be taking her along with me. You don’t need to ask the servants to prepare dinner, we’ll be staying over at Grandfather’s.” I informed him as I walked into my room, shutting the door with a bang. A few seconds after, I could hear the shattering of plates.
“Woah, I could literally feel the electricity buzzing around back there.” Nathan, whom I had forgotten was around sighed, patting his chest. His face was a little pale.
“Scared?” I smirked, glancing at him.
“Well, I won’t say I wasn’t. You were scary back there. You never spoke back to your father previously, you layed low, and planned but now, you’re actively fighting back. What changed?”
“I realised that in my circumstance, laying low wasn’t going to solve the issues, it made things even worse.”
Because I didn’t want to fight my father upfront, my mother fell deeper and deeper into the abyss, until she eventually killed herself from depression and afterwards, my father brought in another woman who had a child and that child a few months older than me.
“So what’s your plan now?”
“For now? Well, I haven’t thought about it yet. My grandfather wants to see me so I’ll go over first. Take the female servants to go and dress up my mother, I’ll take her with me. If I leave her here…” I didn’t have to complete my words, Nathan knew what I was saying.
“I’ll do that.” He nodded and walked out of the door.
Sighing, I took off my clothes, letting it fall to the floor, grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my waist, but I caught something at the corner of my eyes. On my chest was a dark red mark, it was like a long scar that went from just under my collarbone to the top of my nipples. I frowned, I never had this scar.
“Where did this come from?” I traced the scar lightly with my fingertips, my brows furrowing deeply. It wasn’t there in my last life, I would have remembered something like this.

I stood, offering her my arm, “You trust me, don’t you, Mother?”
She looked up at me, those tired gray eyes brightening just a little, “I always have.”
Good. Because this time, I would protect her. No matter what it took, no matter who I had to get rid the light to her eyes.

I casted one glance over my shoulder, catching sight of Richard standing at the top of the staircase, a deep scowl marring his features.
No worries, father. Soon, you will get what is coming to you.
