Chapter 6
In the days that followed, Lily didn’t appear in front of me again.
However, those neighbors would occasionally bring me
vegetables they grew themselves, or invite me to collect seafood on the beach after the tide receded.
I gradually fell in love with island life, and my relationship with Kevin became increasingly stable.
Even though everything seemed to be going well, I still had a bad feeling.
One day, I was happily returning home with a bag of seafood when I saw Kevin pacing anxiously at the gate. He was holding something in his hand and looked very worried.
When he saw me, Kevin immediately grabbed my arm.
“You two are so close,” a neighbor remarked.
Seeing Kevin’s unusual demeanor, I smiled at the neighbor who spoke and quickly pulled Kevin back into the house.
Kevin handed me what he was holding.
“Honey, did we forget to call your parents after we got married? This seems to be a letter from them.”

I was shocked, dropping the seafood on the floor without caring.
I knew things had gone wrong.
With trembling hands, I opened the letter. Sure enough, Amanda’s elegant handwriting couldn’t hide my mother’s anger.
My family thought I was audacious for deciding on my own to come to such a distant place to get married.
And it was even worse that I hadn’t contacted my family at all after the wedding.
Seeing Kevin’s concerned expression, I felt strangely reassured.
I trusted that he would handle this situation well.
Amanda also wrote at the end of the letter that she was very happy after marrying Tom, and that she was pregnant.
In my previous life, Amanda had stayed with Kevin forever, childless. Meanwhile, I had divorced early, gone to work, and died alone.
This time around, we had finally taken different paths.
“Darling, Amanda is already pregnant. When are we going to have a baby?” Kevin came up behind me, wrapped his arms around my waist, and whispered in my ear.

I replied candidly, “That’s up to you. Let’s see what you can do.”
Kevin wasn’t upset at all. Looking at the seafood on the floor, he said with a smile, “Alright, tonight I’ll definitely help you catch up!”
I won’t go into details about how that night went, but I didn’t dare bring up the subject again for quite some time.
After chatting with the neighbors for a while, someone suddenly changed the subject, “Guess who I saw yesterday?”
Seeing everyone’s puzzled expressions, she said with satisfaction, “Last night when I went out looking for my son, I saw Lily holding hands with David Edwards while they were taking a walk!”
Another neighbor quickly shook her head, saying, “That’s impossible. David is married with children. Lily wouldn’t be so irrational. Besides, David is so much older than her.”
Facing everyone’s skeptical looks, the first neighbor insisted, “Why don’t you believe me? Just wait and see. They probably won’t be able to hold back much longer.”
