I took a deep breath and prepared to walk away. [

Even though my heart was broken,
our son had given him three chances, still holding onto some hope. []

I pulled out some cash from my bag and placed it on the table.
Since we were determined to go our separate ways,
I didn’t want to take a single cent from him.

He rushed to stop me, his face filled with desperate pleading.

Before he could finish, I cut him off.

“Jasper’s hearing has been fine for a while.”
“By the way, the doctor said it was because of you that our son ended up this way.“]
You should visit the hospital sometime, maybe get your brain checked while you’re at it.”
With that, I walked out of the café without looking back. [
I didn’t let the brief encounter bother me.
My son and I were settling into our new life.

He was making new friends at school.
Every day was fulfilling and happy.
In the meantime, our marriage was officially ended by the court,
thanks to him making a mess online, []
which convinced the judge that our relationship was beyond repair.
Even after the divorce, Declan still tried to win me back during his visits to New Zealand.
He even got into a car accident on one of those trips.
While he was hospitalized, he didn’t even have anyone to take care of him.
That made him regret everything–how he had pushed his wife and child away over eight years.
Another year passed, and it was our son’s birthday again. [
Declan showed up at our door with his injuries still healing, [
carrying our son’s favorite toy and a cake, hoping to celebrate together. [
But when he walked in, he saw a happy family of three, []
celebrating with smiles and singing happy birthday. []
“Uncle Declan, I already have a dad.” []
“Goodbye, Uncle. I hope you don’t come back to disturb our lives.”
I just quietly watched my son,

leaving all the stress and chaos outside the door.
Smiling, I leaned on Liam’s shoulder.
Our fingers intertwined, glowing with happiness.
The wedding bands on our ring fingers, bound together,
symbolized our unbreakable, eternal commitment.
