Chapter 12
After calling Bastien, Mrs. Moreau tried Ophelia repeatedly–straight to voicemail every time. Anxiety mounting, she drove to their house.]
She found Bastien sprawled on the couch, dead eyed. The house felt eerily vacant–no traces of Ophelia anywhere. []
No boots in the entryway, no jacket on the hook, even the wedding portrait had disappeared from above the fireplace.[]
Her heart sank. She stormed toward Bastien.[]
“Where the hell is Ophelia?” she demanded. “You couldn’t even wait to marrying the fucking girl? Is that it?“]
Her voice vibrated with barely controlled rage.]
Bastien looked up at his mother’s flushed face and let out a hollow laugh.]
“She left.”
“For where?”
“London.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll track her down.“]
Bastien nodded vaguely, but his mother couldn’t say anymore. Her eyes had caught the red divorce agreement lying on the coffee table.
She snatched it up.whipping it at his head.[]
“Bastien!Have you completely lost your mind? This is what you called ‘temporary? You absolute moron!“]]
After unleashing hell or. Bastien, she pulled out her phone to send Ophelia a message.]
She swore she’d make Bastien apologize, whatever it took.
Meanwhile, Anastasia was out of the hospital.[]
She’d blown up Bastien’s phone without response, growing increasingly panicked, coming back to the villa herself.
As her car pulled into the driveway, she noticed the villa’s door was opened.[
Inside, there was no sign of Ophelia–just Bastien looking like absolute in hell.[]
Anastasia hesitated. She’d seen this particular expression once before, years ago after their worst breakup. He’d been a complete wreck then too.]
But why now? Was he actually upset about Ophelia leaving?
He hadn’t seemed this devastated at the hospital.]
“Where’s Ophelia? Did she move out already?“]
“Even with Ophelia gone, don’t think for one second you’re moving in here.Get out a voice spat from the staircase.[]
Anastasia froze at the sight of Bastien’s mother, her blood running cold. Still, she forced herself to stand tall, mustering a gentle greeting.
“Mrs. Moreau.”
Bastien’s mother was incandescent with rage. She flew down the stairs. Bastien quickly stepped between them. “Time for you to go.“]
Jenna hustled Anastasia out. Mrs.Moreau saw they went to the next villa.[]
She rounded on her son. “Why could she stay at Ophelia’s house?“]
Bastien had no answer. His mother took a deep, shuddering breath.[]
