Chapter 6
It was my supposedly “working late” husband, Nathan.
His sentence cut off mid–way when he saw my face.
No wonder he was shocked. I’d told him I was teaching elementary school, but never mentioned I was his secret son’s teacher.
Thank you, universe! The evidence just walked right in!]
Fighting to contain my excitement, I said with a trembling voice: “Please come in and take a seat. We’ve already started.“[]
With all those eyes watching, Nathan couldn’t act strangely. He sat down at Aiden’s desk, his face ashen.]]
On stage, I was shaking with excitement, which Nathan probably interpreted as devastation over his betrayal.[]
When the conference finally ended, I pretended to be emotionally wrecked and rushed out of the classroom.
But Nathan moved faster, blocking my path and pulling me into a deserted corner.
Claire, Claire, it’s not what you think. Let me explain.” The panic on Nathan’s face looked genuine.
“If it’s not what I think, then what is it? When others told me you were cheating, I didn’t believe them. But today I saw it with my own eyes. What can you possibly say? How could you do this to me? To my parents?”
I pulled out my phone and showed him the photo I’d taken in hospital.[]
When he saw it, any words of defense died in his throat.
“Claire, I messed up. I was out of my mind. Please forgive me just this once. I’ll cut all ties with them immediately.“]
Judging by Nathan’s reaction, my performance was a complete success.[]
“Forgive you? After all these years together, after everything I’ve done for this marriage–and you’re out there with another woman, even having a child? How am I supposed to forgive that?”
I felt zero guilt saying I’d worked hard for our marriage.
Nathan gripped my hands tightly, his face pleading. “I’m sorry, Claire. Please, for the sake of all our years together, forgive me this once. We can make things right, start fresh.”
This was the first time I’d ever seen him show such emotion. With his handsome face looking so desperate, it almost made my heart soften.
Almost. Unfortunately for him, I’m not the type to soften easily.
I yanked my hands away. “The one thing I’ve always hated most is betrayal. I won’t forgive you. Get the divorce papers ready.“[]
Before Nathan could recover, I quickly left the school.
There was no way I was going home tonight.[]
While waiting for my hotel room service, I anonymously texted Tessa, telling her if she wanted to be with Nathan, she should bring Aiden to his house at 10 AM tomorrow.
I knew she wouldn’t pass up this golden opportunity.
To make sure Nathan couldn’t weasel out of the divorce, I had my lawyer prepare the paperwork in advance. It would definitely come in handy tomorrow.
After taking care of everything, I texted the younger guy I’d been secretly crushing on for ages:[
This girl’s officially single now. Any chance you’d take me out?”
