Chapter 7
I thought for sure I was gonna die this time.
Actually, dying might’ve been a relief–at least I wouldn’t have to stick around in this world just to suffer anymore.[]
But when I woke up, I found myself in some place I’d never seen before.[]
It was this run–down village, though the house I was in seemed relatively clean and neat.[]
My entire body was wrapped in bandages, and the smell of medicinal ointment hit me like a truck. Somebody had patched me up pretty good.]
Holy shit, I was actually still alive.
A few minutes later, a cop walked in carrying a takeout container. When he saw me sitting up, he rushed over to ask if I was feeling any better.]
“Thank God you’re finally awake. This is a police safe house–nobody can find you or bother you here. Think you can tell me the whole story now?“[]
I was completely shocked. “How the hell did you guys even bring me here?“]
Officer Shred explained: “My partner and I were patrolling near your house when we heard your screams. We kicked the door in and found you covered in blood, just lying there on the floor. Your dad’s already been taken to the station. I swear we’re going to get justice for you!”
He was seriously pissed off. “If we hadn’t gotten you to the hospital when we did, you’d be dead right now!“]
I thanked him so much.[]
Maybe the universe wasn’t quite done with me yet.
Officer Shred stared at me in disbelief: “Looks like your father’s abuse wasn’t just a one–time thing. You know you could’ve asked for help, right? Or contacted the police?”
I couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh.[]
“Trust me, I’ve been desperately trying to get help from literally everyone. I even tried calling the cops, but my dad always shut that down.“]]
“Everyone around me would back up my dad, swearing he never hurt me. They’d say it was all my fault–that I deserved everything I got.“[]
At first, I tried confiding in relatives, but as soon as they followed my dad into that study, they’d come out with these twisted expressions, absolutely hating my guts, practically wishing I was dead.
Every boyfriend and girlfriend I’d ever had eventually ended up with the same attitude.
After those guys broke up with me, I even tried begging them to take me back–crying my eyes out–but they were ice cold, telling me they never wanted to see my face again.
Even when I tried to escape, it was useless. My dad would always catch me and beat me within an inch of my life.[]
That day, I poured out my entire life story to Officer Shred–all the pain, all the suffering.[]
He cried along with me, totally wrapped up in what I went through–and when I got to the bad parts, he actually clenched his fists. Like, really angry.|}
He gently rested a hand on my shoulder, squeezing once as he reassured me, “It’s going to be okay. No one’s ever going to hurt you again!“[]
“I’ll protect you, I promise!“]
He told me he’d take me back to my house to collect evidence, swearing he’d make sure my dad went to prison for the rest of his life, so he couldn’t hurt anyone else
Soon after, Officer Shred sent someone to take me home.
But it wasn’t about collecting evidence–they literally just wanted to bring me back to live there.[]
Officer Thorne–he was supposed to be escorting me–kept scratching his head, totally confused by what was going on!}
“I wasn’t there when it happened, but according to my colleagues, Officer Shred was absolutely furious when he escorted your dad back home. They got into a heated argument.“[]
He was shouting, demanding to know why your father would torture his own daughter like that. But your dad wouldn’t confess–just sat there with this creepy ass smile. When Officer Shred got so angry he punched the wall, your dad suddenly took off and hid in one of the bedrooms Officer Shred followed him

in.”
I knew exactly which room Officer Shred went into–the study.]
