Before, I thought my in–laws treated me fine. And I just desperately wanted a child.
It wasn’t until today that I came to my senses.
They never treated me as a member of their family.
Of course, if my child was born, he was also their family.
As for me, I was an outsider from the beginning.
My head was starting to ache again, and I rubbed my temples.
Maybe it was because of the tumor.
Where could I go?
I thought about going back to my mom’s house.
I was helpless. Going back to my mother’s house would be worse than going back to my house.
Since Frederick, my brother, was born, I became a nobody.
On the day I was married off, Lindsay, my mom, said, “From now on, you’re Mrs. Cooper. Audrey Fisher no longer exists.”
They treated me like a stranger. On the first Christmas after the wedding, I returned to the Fisher’s house. I found my room had
been changed into Frederick’s gaming room.
“We live in the same city anyway, so you have to go back to your own house.”
Lindsay advised me so, and Daniel, my dad, said, “Yeah, your mom is right.”
I let out a deep breath and went home after all.
Just as I walked up to the door, I found the lock had been changed.
I had no choice but to knock.
Frederick came over and opened the door. “Audrey, what are you doing at home?”
Walking into the house, I opened the shoe closet, but my slippers were gone.
All I could do was put on the guest slippers and walk to the living room. In the living room, a round–faced girl was sitting on the
couch.
“We have guests at home today?”
I tried to put on a smile as Frederick awkwardly walked over to introduce the girl.

“Anna, this is my sister, Audrey. Audrey, this is my girlfriend. She came to our house for the first time.”
Surprised, I held out my hand. “Hi, nice to see you.”
The girl shook my hand timidly and turned back to whisper to Frederick.
“You didn’t say you have a sister, did you?”
Frederick sat down on the couch in a carefree manner.
“Yeah, she’s married.”
Daniel and Lindsay poked their heads out of the kitchen, both looking surprised.
“Audrey, what are you doing back here?”
Daniel seemed to be a little angry. “Why do you go home without telling us in advance? Do you know what day it is?”
I bit my lip. “Mom and Dad, I’ll help.”
Lindsay asked me, “Why didn’t William come? What’s wrong with you two?”
I lowered my head, tears falling.
“Things can’t always go your way. You need to be more tolerant of him.”
I wanted to ask Lindsay why I had to tolerate William. Hadn’t I done enough?
Or was it because he was a man, and I was a woman, so I had to be the generous one?
I dragged Lindsay out onto the balcony, and she was a little upset.
“Can’t we talk about it later? We’re in the middle of cooking for Frederick and his girlfriend.”
I took the report out of my pocket. “Mom, I have a tumor in my brain.”
Lindsay didn’t take the report, instead, she looked at me suspiciously.
“Brain tumor? Audrey, it looks like you’re in pretty good condition.”
“Mom, look at the report…”
I shoved the report into her hand, and Lindsay ducked.
“Audrey, you’re married off. You should look for William when you’re sick.”
Daniel said, “Yeah, doesn’t he care about you? Don’t you have insurance?”
Although I had already known they wouldn’t care about me, when I heard what they said, I still felt a chill down my spine.
“It’s okay, Mom and Dad.”

I put away the report.
“I just came to let you know. Now you know I’m ill, I will go back.”
Lindsay pulled me back and gave Daniel a look.
Daniel went back into the bedroom and walked out again quickly.
“Audrey, here’s 400 dollars, take it.”
He stuffed the money into my hand. “It’s not that we are petty. It’s just we should save money for Frederick’s wedding.‘
I looked at Daniel and then Lindsay, tears welling up in my eyes.
“Mom and Dad, keep the money. Frederick has a girlfriend. So he should be getting married soon, right?”
