Lucas was overjoyed. He quickly rushed back to the ward.
When he saw the assistant kneeling in the corner, Lucas was a little surprised.
“Aren’t we getting a divorce? What’s going on here?”
Josie did not even glance at Lucas. She glanced at the assistant with a lift of her chin.
“Tell him what you told me clearly!”
The assistant did not dare to keep the secret any longer. He told the truth.
As Lucas listened, his expression turned colder and colder.
“It’s impossible. Shevonne is kind and innocent. She would never hurt anyone!”
As he said this, the person Josie had sent out returned.
“I investigated carefully. The post about the show of affection on the helicopter trended because of Shevonne’s influence.”
Lucas looked lost. He snatched the file from the investigator’s hand.
Once he finished reading, Lucas’s legs went weak, and he fell on the floor.
“How could this be?”
Josie looked at him with disgust.
“Didn’t you say that Shevonne is innocent and kind and not at all scheming? She plotted to get us overseas, so we would die in that earthquake!
“If Elise hadn’t given me the last spot on the plane, I would be dead!”
Lucas’s eyes were red–rimmed as he stared at me.
“I was wrong for blaming you for this, Elise. I’m sorry. I really never thought this could be true. I thought you and Shevonne were fighting for my affection…”
I ignored his explanation. I only held the divorce papers Josie had brought in front of him.
“Sign now. Shevonne and your child are waiting for you.”
Lucas shook his head hard, refusing to accept the papers.
I gripped his hand and shoved a pen into it.
“Isn’t divorcing me something you’ve always wanted, Lucas? I want to get divorced now. Hurry up and sign!”

“Elise, I know that I’ve made horrendous mistakes, but those were all misunderstandings. I don’t want to leave you.”
Josie sighed and spoke up. “Hurry up and sign. It wasn’t Elise who insisted on staying by your side. I was the one who kept
stopping Elise from divorcing you.
“Lucas, you’ve really made terrible mistakes. No woman could forgive a husband like you.”
In the end, Lucas signed the papers.
The last swoop of his name was smudged by a tear.
After signing, Lucas stood at the end of the bed and looked at me for a while before turning to leave.
“Elise, I have transferred half of the Devine Group’s liquid capital to you. It’s enough for you to have a good life. I’ll miss you…”
Josie sobbed.
My heart ached.
“Josie, you raised me. My opinion of you will never change because of Lucas.”
Hearing my promise, Josie bent down and hid her face in my sheets.
I held her hand comfortingly and squeezed.
Due to the ordeal, the Devine Group suffered a great blow. There were many competitors eyeing it.
Lucas’s abandonment of his wife and the way he left a bunch of refugees in danger immediately caused his competitors to turn
