“My mother wouldn’t have suddenly gone overseas if she hadn’t wanted to get that necklace for you!”
Josie slapped him once again.
Shevonne shrieked, and Josie slapped her too. Lucas quickly shielded Shevonne as the room devolved into chaos.
Yet my mind was even more of a mess than the ward.

Chapter 7
“Josie, what necklace is he talking about? I don’t know anything about it.”
At my question, Josie suddenly froze.

From her bag, she carefully took out the necklace she had won at an astronomically high price at the auction. She brought it
before me.
“It’s this one. It was such a mess that day that I didn’t manage to give it to you.”
Josie’s expression was earnest, but I had never said anything about wanting some necklace.
I was going to ask more, but Shevonne suddenly cried out in pain. She clutched her tummy and sprawled on the floor.
Lucas immediately lifted her. He said something about settling the score with me later and left without turning around.
I looked dazedly at the necklace for a long time.
“Josie, tell me. Why did he say that I wanted this necklace?”
Josie looked embarrassed.
“I knew you were unhappy, so I was trying to make it up to you. That day, I heard someone close to Lucas say you liked this
necklace very much, so I arranged a last–minute trip to give you a surprise. I didn’t expect us to get into such trouble.
“Elise, is something the matter with this necklace?”
My mind whirred as sweat soaked my back.
“Yes. You know I’ve never liked jewelry. This was a setup from the beginning. Someone knew that there would be an earthquake
abroad and mentioned that I liked that necklace in front of you. We were tricked into going there.
“Josie, that person wants us dead.”
Josie went silent. Then, she took out her phone and got the assistant who had slipped her the news brought to the ward.
After some interrogation, we got a name that was not unexpected at all.
Shevonne Cobb.
She had paid the man off to mention in front of Josie that I wanted that necklace. It prompted a guilty Josie to bring us abroad to
die.
Josie was so angry that she started cursing. She called Lucas immediately.
On the phone, Lucas sounded impatient.
“Are you still on Elise’s side despite everything? Don’t you know how badly people are criticizing our family right now? Mom, I’m
definitely divorcing her. Nothing you can say will change my mind!”
The scolding Josie was about to spout got stuck in her throat. “I agree with you and Elise having a divorce. Come and sign the papers now,” she said slowly.
