With quick steps, Lucas came forward and pulled me up from the bed by my wrist. He stared into my eyes.
“What do you mean by this, Elise? Do you think I’ll let you go if you try to make headway in this roundabout manner? I want you
to make a statement and apologize to Shevonne. Tell people that you were just playing around and fell accidentally. Do you hear
me?”
In contrast to Lucas’s rage, I only looked at him quietly as I shook my head.
“It wasn’t a game. Shevonne wanted to kill me.”
Instantly, tears ran down Shevonne’s face, and she threw herself into Lucas’s embrace.
“It was only a prank, Lucas. How could she blame me for it? Let’s forget it. Others can lecture me all they want. It’s fine for them
to think I was in the wrong. Let’s go quickly. Let’s not make Elise mad, or she’ll say even more bad stuff about me…”
Although she sounded helpless, Shevonne was blaming everything on me.
Lucas was instantly enraged. He gripped me by the throat and hurled me from the bed to the floor.
“Elise, don’t you dare go too far!”
Lucas suddenly froze.
His gaze was glued on my lower leg in its cast. He looked stunned.
“What happened to you?”
I wanted to pull my leg closer to myself, but I was in so much pain that I could not do it.
