Mr. Gray was surprised and quickly asked, “Claire, you have a boyfriend? Is he a foreigner?”

Before Claire could catch her breath, her phone rang again.
This time it was Zane.

Zane spoke first: “If you want the locket, come get it yourself. Otherwise, if it gets lost, you
must find another excuse to make me responsible for you.”
Claire had been wondering why Zane was holding onto her locket and wouldn’t return it.

Hearing him say this, she finally understood.

Claire laughed incredulously. “You’re overthinking things.”

“I’m getting married the day after tomorrow. Aren’t you coming?”
Claire paused before answering, “No, I’d rather not. So as not to make someone worry that
I’m going to sabotage the wedding.”

She thought that with things said so plainly, they wouldn’t have anything else to talk.
But unexpectedly, Zane suddenly lost his temper.
“Claire, I’m your brother! I’m getting married and you won’t even attend? What are you
thinking?”
Claire laughed bitterly, “Brother, weren’t you the one who told me not to come back?”
“Whatever I’m thinking, just know that I truly wish you and Emma a lifetime of happiness.”
With that, she hung up.
Claire couldn’t understand Zane. Hadn’t he been worried she might ruin his wedding with
Emma?
Why was he now so insistent that she attend?
