It felt as if an invisible hand gripped Tristan’s heart tightly, squeezing it before letting go.
The pain was excruciating, tearing him apart.
Tristan broke down in sobs. “Nicky, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done it! It’s all my fault!”
He thought of his liver–it was Nicole who had donated it to him.
They had been together for so many years. No one in the world loved him more than Nicole did.
And what about him? What had he done? He had hurt her over and over again, pushing her to her death with his own hands.
When night fell, the rescue team returned.
Upon seeing him, they shook their heads one by one.
“Mr. Ford, I’m sorry. We didn’t find Mrs. Ford’s body.”
“Mr. Ford, if I may speak frankly, with the river currents so strong, Mrs. Ford’s chances of survival are slim. As for her body, likely been swept far away by now. Continuing the search like this isn’t practical.”
