As soon as David finished speaking, Ethan and Hazel froze in shock. It took them a long moment to find their voices.
Ethan stuttered, “Th–that’s impossible. Audrey is my wife–how could she possibly be with Uncle Jeremiah? And doesn’t he hate
women? Wasn’t he born infertile?”
David looked at him with utter disappointment.
“Back then, after you ran off on your wedding day, Audrey married Jeremiah on the spot. How is it that everyone in Beverton City
knows this except you?”
Ethan froze. After he and Hazel eloped, they cut off all contact from Beverton City, fearing the family would come after them.
They’d been drifting through foreign countries ever since, wasting their days away.
It wasn’t until recently that all of his cards were frozen. With not a penny left, they spent a whole month washing dishes at a
diner just to scrape together enough for two plane tickets home.
They rushed straight to the Moore residence after landing, so they didn’t have time to ask around about anything else.
“Yes, Jeremiah was born infertile, but that doesn’t mean there was no hope. He’s spent years seeing top specialists around the
world. And now, he and Audrey finally have a child. You’ve destroyed everything,” David said bitterly, his voice heavy with grief.
The moment he thought of Jeremiah’s ruthless methods, Ethan collapsed to the ground as if his skeleton had been ripped out.
