how much he cared for Yvette.
He thought I was deliberately ignoring his calls and punishing him out of spite. And since I was pregnant, too, my temper had probably become worse.
Suddenly, Caleb didn’t feel the urgency to return anymore. He wanted me to stew in jealousy a little longer. That way, his presence would be a delightful surprise when he finally returned for my delivery.
A confident smile tugged at his lips as he picked up the phone and called the housekeeper to check on me.
Grace had already instructed the housekeeper on what to say, so the response came smoothly.
“Mrs. Lawson is doing well. She has a good appetite and is resting at the moment. Mr. Lawson, it’s best if you don’t call for now. Mrs. Lawson needs to stay calm for the baby’s sake. Emotional stress wouldn’t be good for the baby.”
Caleb sighed helplessly. I was pregnant, so of course, the baby came first. But to him, I was constantly throwing tantrums and getting more and more unreasonable by the day.
Well, in three months, Yvette would give birth. By the time he returned, he vowed to make me learn my place.

After hanging up, the housekeeper turned to Patricia and Grace with a triumphant smile.

Patricia looked pleased. “By the time these few months pass, Caleb will have fallen for Yvie. That woman carrying a fatherless
child isn’t worth his attachment. He’ll soon realize Yvie is the only one truly meant for him.”
But Grace wasn’t so sure. She knew Caleb had genuine feelings for me. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone so far as to marry me.
Without love, he wouldn’t have defied his own family despite countless wealthy heiresses vying for his attention.
If Yvette had been capable of winning his heart, she would have done so long ago.
A sense of unease crept into Grace’s mind as she recalled my words before entering the operating room.
I had asked if they would regret this.
Though it could have been a lie, the look in my eyes and the mocking smile at the corner of my lips were something Grace
couldn’t forget.
