Jonah chuckled and smiled at me. As long as you like it, I’m happy.”

After finishing the discussion regarding the wedding venue, Jonah brought me to try on wedding dresses

He was extremely patient as I tried on dress after dress. Whenever I felt conflicted, he would earnestly give suggestions

Every time I looked at him, he was already staring right at me

Upon returning home that day, I only realized how red I was when I looked in the mirror

I wasn’t an innocent 17yearold anymore, so what was with this reaction

I sighed at myself, but in the next second, I couldn’t help but smile widely

Back when I first agreed to the marriage with the Zowski family, it was mainly because I had been furious at George. But now,

couldn’t help but think this was the best decision I could have made

That evening, I was eating dinner with my parents as we discussed the wedding in three days

My phone buzzed incessantly as I received several hundred messages

A quick glance told me they were all from George

I had no doubt they were either apologies, pleas for forgiveness, or pleas for us to get back together

I picked up my phone and sent a straightforward message in reply: We’ve already broken up, so please stop bothering me.”

Then, I didn’t wait for him to reply before blocking his number

In an instant, I regained peace and silence in my world

However, halfway through the meal, there was a knock on the front door. It was George

Mary, I’m here to apologize. Please forgive me? I’ve already spoken to Mom and Dad. The woman I love is you, and the one I want to marry is also you. I’ve already canceled my wedding with Winona.”

I tilted my head to observe George

It had only been half a day, yet he looked considerably paler, as though the life had been drained out of him. His appearance was

also unkempt, with disheveled hair and stubble all over his chin

If this had been in the past, I would have been utterly heartbroken, but now? How he was doing had nothing to do with me

anymore

My face was blank as I replied, George, it’s over between us. You’ve gotten your marriage certificate with Winona, so you’re

already legally married.”

With that said, I shut the door

However, George quickly leaned against the door to stop it from closing. He brought out the ring with the jasmine design on it and carefully offered it to me

Mary, I’ll divorce Winona. I’ll make her divorce me tomorrow, even if I have to drag her there. The only woman I want to marry is you. Look, I’ve even gotten back your ring! It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have given it to Winona. Let me put it on for you, alright?”

My gaze drifted down before I took the ring from his palm

A hopeful gleam entered George’s eyes, but I laughed mockingly and asked, Why should I want a man who’s already been divorced once?”

Following that, I used all my strength to toss the ring out the window

George’s expression morphed into one of shock and hurt

Nonetheless, he quickly regained his composure, though his countenance paled a little further

Mary, do you think it’s tacky because Winona once wore that ring? It’s fine. I can always just buy you another one. What design would you like? Tell me. I’ll definitely get it ready for you

As for our wedding plans, I’ve already informed the wedding planning company. We’ll use the idea we planned out back then. Same with your wedding dress. See, Mary? I’ll give you whatever you want!”

George was practically pleading with me as he promised me all the things I once wanted but had given to Winona instead. He continued rambling, vowing he would give me whatever I wanted, that he would defer to me and let me have my way, and that he would never let me suffer any more injustices

However, all I said was, It’s too

late.”
