Chapter 5
I tensed slightly in surprise. The man supporting me had a calming pine scent to him, and when I lifted my head to look up, I
could see the sharp cut of his jawline.
Once again, he spoke in my ear softly. “There’s no need to be scared. I’m here now.”
Those words caused a sense of security to blanket me.
For a brief moment, I was dazed at the surrealness. I could already guess this was Jonah Zowski.
In other words, he was the fiancé who had sent me the message earlier.
Opposite us, George scoffed before snapping, “Marilyn, is this an actor you hired? Do you think doing this will make me jealous
and call off my wedding with Winnie? You are seriously naive if you think that. How manipulative.”
Even now, George was still thinking the worst of me. There truly was no saving him.
I must have been blind last time to not see his true colors.
When the crowd heard this, the way they looked at me and Jonah grew increasingly unfriendly. They began to point and curse at
- me.
“So, she’s a scheming woman. Not only did she push down that pregnant woman earlier, but she even hired an actor to put on a
show! She truly is wicked to the core!”
“I know, right? Young people are so heartless. Bah!”
“How could someone be so evil?”
In response to the harsh criticism and accusations, Jonah didn’t hesitate to stand in front of me, trying to protect me from them.
“Everyone, I’m Marilyn Lithos‘ fiancé, Jonah Zowski. I believe in Mary’s character, and she would never intentionally harm an
innocent person,” he said with conviction, his voice ringing out powerfully.
