Recently, Eric had been spending most of his time at the hospital. Lila’s selfless act of saving him had deeply moved him.
Looking at her social media post, I saw the table piled high with flowers and gourmet food from him. He was tending to her with
care, bustling around like a devoted partner. They looked happy together.
On my birthday, Jonah got me a cake even more extravagant than the one Eric had given Lila whereas Eric gave me a pricey
diamond.
The moment I saw the gifts, I ran happily toward them. Eric stepped forward excitedly, but in the next second, I threw myself into
Jonah’s arms.
“Thank you for the gift. I love it!” I said.
Jonah kissed my cheek. “Happy birthday, my princess.”
Eric stood there, staring at us with his fists clenched tightly.
I knew Jonah had stopped Eric from telling me the truth. He had said, “Are you sure she’ll accept you if you tell her the truth now? She doesn’t remember you and has no feelings for you. If you tell her now, she’ll only resent you more.”
Eric became scared when he heard that.
Yet, after days of being treated like an outsider, completely ignored by me, he couldn’t take it anymore. One day, he intercepted
me when I was on my way home from work.
“Gina.” He walked over to me, his eyes filled with intense emotion.
I frowned. “What do you want, Eric?”
“Gina, I broke up with Lila.”
My frown deepened. “What does that have to do with me?”
“Of course it does! Gina, what happened with Lila was a mistake. She initiated everything,” Eric explained urgently. “I see that
now, and I’ve already made it right.”
